Your Lifetime Goals, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 355

Essay

Considering your lifetime goals, discuss how your current and future academic and extra-curricular activities might help you achieve your goals.

Throughout my life, I have always been surrounded by various components of the business world. My grandparents currently own a successful nursery in Puerto Rico and my parents own an information technology consulting company in Round Rock, Texas. The successes of my family members contributed to my interest in business. To further my knowledge of this industry I joined the International Business Academy at Cedar Ridge High School for 9th grade.

As a student at the academy, I took several different business classes that built my knowledge of business and allowed me to determine what my future career would be. During my freshman year, I took an entrepreneurship class, which helped me establish the foundation of my business education. The following year, I took a business management class that gave me the chance to oversee the operations of our school’s student store. My responsibilities included taking inventory, customer relations, advertising, setting up the merchandise displays, and more. Furthermore, my program allowed me to participate in several business themed competitions. My hard work paid off when the team I led won 3rdplace at the district level of the Capital City Budgeting Challenge. During my junior year, I was also a district competitor of the DECA Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series, which I believe positively contributed to my knowledge of business and teamwork. I also successfully completed the H&R Block Budget Challenge, which provided me with a coherent understanding of budgeting techniques.

Outside of school, I was able to engage in business practices by helping my parents’ company, Learn IT Solutions Group (LITSG), with their accounting needs. To do so, I manage QuickBooks while invoicing clients, managing the schedule of the employees, and running payroll. I’m also working to obtain several Microsoft Certified Professional certifications which are required to support Microsoft products and Windows Servers. Over the summer of 2015, I traveled to several states while shadowing LITSG’s president. I believe that my combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience will contribute to my value as an undergraduate business student.
