Zion Covenant and Catholicism, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 286

Essay

There is a strong nexus between the Zion Covenant and Catholicism. The Zion Covenant depicts the revelation of Yahweh, making this covenant more of a spiritual concept that shapes the identity and the future of the convent people.  The Zion Covenant promises of an eternal Davidic Kingdom, which under Catholicism is believed to have been fulfilled through Jesus Christ, whom is the Anointed Prince ruling over all the nations on earth. Under Catholicism, Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah, having descended from the lineage of David and the inheritor of God’s Kingdom of Heaven on earth, which the Catholic church or anywhere where God is present among his people.

It is Jesus of Nazareth who is described as the stumbling block in the Zion Covenant who becomes the stone that the builders rejected but later attains the status of the cornerstone of which the foundation of the New Covenant (Catholic Church) is built.  It is from the Zion Covenant that a new covenant is born with the Resurrected Messiah serving as the High Priest and acts as the spiritual Zion during the celebration of the Mass.  The Zion Covenant has thus now been replaced with the Mass, which is the summit of the Most Holy Eucharist, and it is the basis of Catholics worshipping and beholding the rise of Jesus Christ from the dead.

In a nutshell, the Zion Covenant is a well-emphasized concept in the Catholic church, and it is the future of the New Jerusalem which is promised at the end where the King will come again in glory. Therefore, the link between the Zion Covenant and Catholicism is thus clear as both promises a new kingdom, which in contemporary times is the New Jerusalem.
