A Military Campaign, Outline Example

Pages: 2

Words: 490

Outline

Introduction

  • Over the past year the organization known as “ISIS” has released a series of videos showing the beheadings of foreign journalist and aid workers who have been kidnapped by the militant group.
  • These videos are intended to strike fear into people in the region as ISIS takes more territory
  • These videos should serve as a direct message to the U.S. and the West that coordinated diplomacy and military action are needed to stop the spread of ISIS, return democratic order to Iraq, and prevent further humanitarian crises in the region.

Transition: The recent stream of videos is evidence of the growing threat of ISIS.

Body

  • ISIS will continue to grow if it is not opposed
  • ISIS started in a small region in northern Iraq
  • It has taken over the city of Kabul and other areas
  • It has the financing and support needed to keep growing

Transition: With this funding ISIS will move the region backwards.

  • As ISIS continues to grow it will undo the accomplishments of Iraqi citizens made after the war
  • Regardless of your position or opinion of the Iraq War, the country was making great strides towards developing a working government
  • ISIS has funded their operations by taking control of oil fields and drilling operations
  • This undermines the ability of the legal Iraqi government to operate, and it is clear that the Iraqi government cannot oppose ISIS without assistance

Transition: If ISIS undermines the Iraqi government the entire region will face significant problems.

  • Because ISIS has faced so little serious opposition, they have been able to take over huge areas of Iraq which is leading to a humanitarian crisis throughout the region
  • ISIS is displacing hundreds of thousands of refugees
  • ISIS is kidnapping and murdering anyone who opposes them

This is a crisis that will only continue to grow if Western forces do not offer assistance to Iraq

Conclusion

  • The U.S. and other Western countries are understandably cautious about sending troops back into Iraq, but they have a responsibility to help stop the growing threat of ISIS. The U.S. must use its diplomatic influence to create a new coalition of nations to combat ISIS.
  • There are several reasons why military assistance must be offered to the Iraqi government
  • ISIS will only continue to grow
  • The democratic government of Iraq will be undermined and destroyed
  • Hundreds of thousands of refugees will precipitate a massive humanitarian crisis in the region

If you have seen the images of ISIS militants chopping off the heads of journalists and aid workers, you have seen the face of unspeakable brutality. In the 21stcentury there is no way to hide from the horror of these actions, and we owe it to future generations to oppose this evil.
