1.Abortion should be a woman’s personal choice, particularly under extreme circumstances, and should not be governed by political decision-making and power. Abortion should also be permitted because in some situations, such as rape or when the health of the mother is at risk and carrying a child to term is not the appropriate health and/or psychological choice. Therefore, this choice should be made by the woman and other influences should not be involved. Based upon current legal precedent, the choice to have an abortion is increasingly restrictive, depending on the state in which a woman resides and the stage of the pregnancy. However, the United States Supreme Court continues to support its position regarding the legalization of abortion, in spite of significant opposition in many areas of the country.
2.The phrase “pluripotent stem cells” are unique because they are able to proliferate and assume the role of almost any type of cell that is produced in the human body (Explore Stem Cells). These types of cells include embryonic stem cells, embryonic germ cells, and embryonic cancer cells, each of which is represented by a different type of cell growth and proliferation (Explore Stem Cells). This type of stem cell is highly beneficial in the study of disease and the human body because stem cells are able to transform and replace cells that have been destroyed by illness or disease in some patients, thereby creating the potential for improved health and recovery (Explore Stem Cells). However, the use of pluripotent stem cells may be ethically challenging because their reproduction and proliferation into different types of cells is not yet fully explored (Explore Stem Cells). In addition, these cells may be able to reproduce human beings out of the womb in the future, which is not necessarily an acceptable premise for those persons who support traditional reproductive actions.
3. There are a number of positive benefits associated with the utilization of stem cells to replicate other types of cells under different circumstances. In this capacity, stem cells are able to treat a host of diseases that in the past, might not have had a chance of being overcome through traditional medical research channels (UK Stem Cell Foundation). Stem cells that are taken from one part of the body might be effective in assisting another part of the body where there is some degree of dysfunction (UK Stem Cell Foundation). The creation of an environment in which a common or complex disease is able to be cured or reversed as a result of stem cells is critical in supporting and expanding health and wellbeing in many patients (UK Stem Cell Foundation).
Stem cells challenge the status quo and demonstrate the importance of using these cells to reproduce organs that have been damaged or ravaged by disease (National Institutes of Health). Therefore, it is important to utilize these cells and to overcome the ethical challenges that have been identified in order to improve outcomes for patients and to create the potential for long-term success in overcoming diseases (National Institutes of Health). Under these conditions, it is important to identify the different areas where disease might be present and attempt to replicate cells that would replace the damaged portion of an organ or a form of tissue (National Institutes of Health). Therefore, it is important to identify these resources in an effort to produce greater than anticipated outcomes in many patients (National Institutes of Health). Stem cell research is critical to the success of different therapies that will restore function to an organ or system that has been lost to disease or some other type of abnormality that prohibits routine function in an organ or system.
