Adverse consequences in a demographic area can be identified through perusal of relevant data. The demographic area being reviewed is New Orleans East area, Region 1. The proposed business is a personal care agency. The research question pertains to, what are the adverse demographic consequences for establishing such a business in the identified area? From reviewing data the following relevant data was retrieved regarding the community’s demographics.

Population characteristics

Communities making up east New Orleans  include Lake Willow, Kenilworth, Melia, Pines Village, Lake Forest East, Lake Forest West, Plum Orchard, Bonita Park, Willowbrook, Seabrook, Cerise-Evangeline Oaks, Castle Manor, Spring Lake,  Donna Villa and Edgelake  (New Orleans East Area, 1).

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates of July, 2013 show a 1,240,977 New Orleans metro population with a 4% increase from April 2011 (Data center, 1). Currently, this represents 93% of the metro area 2000 population, which was 1,337,726. A 2005 census of the East New Orleans population where the proposed business venture is expected to be established showed a significant fall in the population size from 95,000 in 2000 to 75-65,000 in 2005. This is an adverse demographic characteristic (The Data Center, 1).

Educational attainment

Basic characteristic indicators of available workforce skills along with house hold income and   regional resiliency are the population’s educational attainment levels. Data shows where there has been a significant decline in the amount of adults 25 years and older who have obtained less than a high school diploma academically. In 2000 it was 22%, but 15%  in 2013 (Harden, 1).
