Essay

The purple flowers grow in the defiance of humanity. It is difficult for them to grow and they risk great danger of being picked simply for existing. They are blooming, their scent overpowering the smell of asphalt. Flowers allude to beauty that women try to achieve. They feel so soft in my hands, with a smooth texture. The purple blooms are a lovely spot of color on the black fence. Flowers are metaphors for beauty. They are a poem without words, they tell their own story with their color and stature.

Humanity has a love-hate relationship with nature. We destroy it to build structures and roads. Yet, we try to preserve it as it starts to get destroyed. As the wind blows, the flowers make a gentle tap. When I walk by the flowers, even if I am busy, I pause to admire their beauty. My defiance is pausing. I pause my life to enjoy nature.

Flowers have a powerful effect on people. They can make people feel better. Flowers can put a smile on their faces. The bright colors remind the viewer that nature is beautiful, which makes them feel that the world could sometimes be okay. If flowers could talk, they would shout out with anaphora, “O PEOPLE, take time to enjoy flowers and nature!”

We often turn a blind eye to such beauty. Our views on nature are ironic. We enjoy it but may destroy it. If you listen closely, the flowers sing a song of assonance. They are singing “We are here, leave us be!” Humans assign many different meanings to flowers. They are gifts, kind gestures, and a timepiece for humanity. They came before us and may leave before us as well. They are a simile to the cycle of life. A change to witness the cycle of death and renewal.
