It has recently come to our attention that two new workers were sent out alone to the residence of Mr. Stewart, one of our best customers, as you are aware. Unfortunately, these inexperienced workers killed all the koi fish in Mr. Stewart’s pond due to their unfamiliarity with our sprays.

We understand that mistakes do occur, yet this particular mistake could cause the company significant loss. While we don’t know specifically why these employees were sent out alone, as a prominent field manager we would like to request that you look into this situation more closely to determine the reason for the accident.

We would also like to remind you that only one new employee may be sent out at a time. They must always be accompanied by an experienced counterpart. This is a standard procedure spelled out in our company policy. Please convey the gravity of the situation to the employees responsible, and inform them that repeated offense could result in termination.

Tom, we know you take pride in your work and that you are a good Field Manager – and frankly, we’re very surprised about this situation. We welcome further explanation from you, and encourage you to confer with your employees so that such events can be avoided in the future.
