Introduction
Stress, anger, disappointments and other points of emotional distress are among the causes of different cardiovascular ailments. In this regard, one of the most common ailments that the cardiovascular system incurs is that of hypertension. Due to emotional dilemmas and other aspects of pressure, about 56% of men and 45% of women incur hypertension in an everyday basis (Calhoun, et al, 1403). This is the reason why there had been several measures taken by medicine to lessen the said number of individuals affected by the matter. The fact that it does affect almost everyone at present is the primary reason as to why it has been chosen to be the central point of discussion in this paper. In the discussion that follows, a clear definition of what hypertension is and how it is supposed to be dealt with shall be further considered.
Physiology
Noted to be a cardiac chronic ailment, hypertension is described to involve the elevation of blood pressure in the systemic arterial blood. The systolic and the diastolic measurement of the blood pressure further impose on what and how hypertension occurs in an individual. The heart specifically needs to work faster or pump blood around the body in a faster mode when hypertension occurs. The usual normal blood pressure that is normal is 120/80 mm/Hg [120 being the systolic blood pressure; this pressure represents the measure of the pressure in arteries as the heart contracts. 80 represents the diastolic blood pressure which is noted as the pressure in the arteries between heart beats]. In the course of the blood pressure rising, the reading usually reveals up to 140/90 mm/HG or at times even higher (Carretero, et al, 329).
Being the opposite of hypotension, hypertension is further categorized into two types. One being specifically caused by other medical issues and the other type imposes on the occurrence of a higher blood pressure measure without any relevant causes based on other medical cases. The second type is most often than not defined as the most common cause of hypertension. It is also called as the “primary hypertension” (Loscalzo, 23). This specifically means that more people experience hypertension in an abrupt manner and without any further notice making the matter more dangerous as it becomes harder to control. Specifically, some doctors do provide notable conditions from which patients can learn from which includes changing one’s lifestyle and dietary choices so as to lower down the occurrence of primary hypertension in them.
When hypertension strikes a person, it is very common that drowsiness occurs. Along with this symptom is the occurrence of headaches and nausea. Others may also feel like vomiting and observe on themselves a certain level of confusion. Vision disorders could also be observed on some cases. When these symptoms occur altogether in one time, the situation is often called as hypertensive encephalopathy (Musini, 32). The severe small blood vessel congestion and brain swelling is usually the end-effect of the matter. This process of blood pressure elevation is often noted as the accelerated hypertension whereas the pressure accelerates gradually. Meanwhile, in cases of secondary hypertension, the occurrence of the heightened pressure on the heart’s pumping out of blood specifically happens due to the existence of other health ailments that causes the irregularities of the heart’s functions which could include obesity and diabetes.
Pregnant women often experience this ailment especially during preeclampsia which is a specifically threatening condition for both the mother and the child. In children, it is very rare that hypertension occurs, however it does occur and up to now, researches are being funded to further understand the occurrence of such medical issue among the young ones.
Impact on Individuals
Most often than not, those who experience hypertension in a regular basis are further advised to take the necessary adjustments they have to incur especially when it comes to pointing out how important the process is in further prolonging one’s life time. With the many stressful events and many reasons for one to get exasperated over the different issues of living at present, it could be analyzed that hypertension and its effects have become a common matter among many individuals today. True, this is the reason why there is a need to be alarmed by the increased number of sufferers of hypertension in the society.
Knowing that the primary hypertension is the most common type of the ailment, it is important to note what specific adjustments have been made by some to avoid the occurrence of the impending results of hypertension which includes stroke and heart attack. Some specifically reconsider their dietary schedule specifically lowering down the cholesterol level of their food so as to avoid arterial blocking issues later on. On the other hand, others readapt themselves to new healthier lifestyles which include regular exercise while leading a lot calmer perspective in life (Mulatero, 217). True, these adjustments may seem easy to handle however it is the course of judgment that one has upon himself that makes adhering to these changes much specifically harder to take on.
Impact on Society
Due to the heightened concern on how people are responding to the stressing matters of the current modern life, researchers have been continuously finding solutions to the problem including medical dimensions that could be considered to control the elevation of the heart’s pumping process. It could be noted that somehow, the society at present faces the challenge of living a better lifestyle as they shun what the world offers [such as overeating and overdrinking as a way of distressing measures] (Pierdomenico, et al, 842). Most often than not, as hard as “going to the basics” [or living according to how natural ways of life may have been] may seem a lot impossible for the modern society, avoiding the occurrence of hypertension on particular individuals living specific lifestyles is considered to be the main problem at present.
Conclusion
Hypertension, being viewed as a serious cardiovascular ailment today is considered to be one of the most common yet deadliest causes of health problems in many people today. The avoidance of such health dilemma is indeed a primary concern for many individuals today hence making it also a central concern for professionals thriving in the medical industry at present. True, in this case, avoidance or prevention is always better than having to find effective reconciliations to fix this medical problem in one person.
