Aliens Visit to Earth, Essay Example

Essay

For most of mankind’s history, elite classes denied opportunities to the common people that may allow the common people to rise through the social ranks. The behavior of the elite classes might not have been ethical but it was logical way of ensuring their continuous grip on power. But one of the proudest accomplishments over the last few centuries has been tremendous progress towards equal access to rights and opportunities irrespective of one’s social and economic background of which the greatest example is free public education in many developed countries. I am proud of this because mankind has finally realized that one’s destiny should be based on his/her actions and not facts related to birth. I am also proud of the fact that mankind has adopted more responsible attitude towards other species and realizes that the world doesn’t only belong to the most powerful species but to everyone.

At the same time, I am also ashamed that religions continue to be a force of division even though there were supposed to spread love and promote tolerance. Instead of actions, some people care more about belief systems which is strange. I am also ashamed of the fact that mankind continues to develop more and more powerful weapons as if it’s in a hurry to make itself extinct even before any natural disaster has the opportunity to do so. Countries often struggle to provide basic rights such as food, education, and health to all of their citizens yet they can conveniently allocate billions of dollars to weapons. I am also ashamed of the fact that despite tremendous progress, mankind continues to struggle to ensure gender equality, even in the most developed economies. It is also disappointing that politicians in many developing countries prefer personal interests over national interests and developed countries continue to support corrupt democracies for their own personal interests. Mankind might have made a lot of progress in ethical aspects but ethical progress still lags far behind material progress.
