Amelie Pay It Forward, Essay Example
Pick a minimum of TWO characters from each film and discuss how they achieve the hero’s moral goal.
Amélie Poulain, a young lady of 23 years old, appears in the movie Amelie as one of the characters. Waitress at Café des 2 Moulins, resident of Montmartre; currently working there. Amélie’s youth was spent mostly alone, and she received her education at home; thus, she has a unique perspective on life. She does kind things for the people in her life but keeps them secret. This helps her deal with the loneliness she experiences as an adult. By doing so, she is ultimately forced to conquer her shyness, and, as a result, she eventually discovers love for herself. Nino Quincampoix is the second character to be introduced.
A young guy who shares Amélie’s odd personality traits to the same degree. Nino had a difficult upbringing and struggled with being bullied by his peers, much like Amélie. He has two jobs: one at a haunted ride at an amusement park and the other at a shop selling pornographic films in La Pigalle (Mohr, 2018). So it comes to his attention that a bald guy wearing red shoes appears in several abandoned passport images when he collects the photos thrown away from photo booths located all across Paris and examines them.
The first, “Amelie,” is a film about a Parisian girl named Amelie who finds joy in the little things in life; the second, “Where is the love?” is a song about humanity; it features several different musicians who are speaking out against violence and prejudice. The third element is the movie Pay it Forward, in which a young man named Trevor is tasked with devising a global charity project. The fundamental themes of these works are love and caring for one another; therefore, the messages and information they provide are instructive for society as a whole.
Discuss the character’s origin story and at least two significant actions in each film. First, where were they forced to go on that path, or did they voluntarily set out on that adventure?
Amelie Poulain is a prominent character in the film. Amelie and her father, Raphael, currently live in Paris, where she grew up. Amelie was unlucky to have lost her mother at an early age due to a mysterious accident, and her father could not cope with the loss of his wife very well. As a result, he distanced himself from his daughter and focused on constructing a shrine in their backyard. As a result, Amelie never goes to school and never interacts with other children; because of this, she is constantly alone. As a result, Amelie comes up with various imaginative scenarios of herself working as a server at a café with two windmills.
The fact that Amelie, now an adult lady, has devoted her life to bringing joy to others and assisting those in need lends credence to the notion that she is a heroic figure. Specifically referring to the portion of Campbell’s description of a hero in which he says. The first task of the protagonist is to withdraw from the world’s stage of indirect impacts and travel to those informal zones of the subconscious where the problems reside (Peter, 2022). It is there that the hero must clarify the problems and eliminate them within his case. That is, do battle with the nursery demons of his native customs. Moreover, break by traveling to the undistorted, firsthand knowledge and integration of what Carl Jung referred to as the iconographic images.
In the film AMELIE, the main character is a lady who is searching for love while at the same time assisting others on their journeys. A little child was given an assignment in the movie Pay It Forward that inspired him to go out into the world, and right the wrongs done there. His strategy was to do a kind act for one person, and in exchange, that person would be required to perform the same act for three further individuals. The Black-Eyed Peas have a song called “Where Is the Love” that demonstrates and discusses the many problems that are now occurring in our society. It demonstrates that no one cared about one another, even in the face of death. The song also highlights the necessity to address issues of criminality, violence, and hatred if we are ever going to discover love.
The first things that spring to mind whenever we think of a hero are the flashy costumes and the incredible superpowers they possess. According to the definition of a hero provided by Joseph Campbell, a hero is unselfish and makes a sacrifice for the benefit of another person, a cause, or an idea. There is a widespread misconception that for us to qualify as heroes, we must be in a position to save another individual’s life successfully. Considering that even something as seemingly minor as lending one’s support to a worthy cause or helping to start such a cause counts as heroic behavior.
Sitting with a person who is constantly alone or who is being harassed is something that I have seen other people do and that I have also done myself. It offers them the opportunity to make a new friend, find someone they can speak to, or stop the bullying they experience. The amount of work you put into anything is more important than the satisfaction you get from doing something kind for another person or object. For instance, Trevor tried all in his power to bring his mother and his instructor together, and despite the possibility that he may never see them in the same room again, his plan was successful in the end. Campbell is of the opinion that people of both genders should strive to improve the world and then share their experiences with others so that others may replicate their successes.
Find one deed in each movie and describe if it was a physical or a spiritual trip that led to that action or journey.
Amelie does kind things for others spiritually, but she does not like to be recognized as the one who is responsible for the happiness she brings to others around her. Her living is not that great, but she still appears to care about other people, including her father, who has not been around very much to take care of her. Because of this, she decides to go out to the stage of trying to steal some gnome monument and sending the photographs to his father in design recognized to motivate him to travel and discover the area more. Her life is not that great, but she still appears to care about other people. These gestures are spiritual since they are intended to inspire her father to enjoy life more and go on despite the loss of his wife.
Such deeds are seen in today’s society, where someone may even contribute money to you for treatment or education without revealing their name. If you want everyone to live in peace, it is vital that you take care of your neighbor and treat them the same way you treat yourself. Amelie rescued herself from her isolation by showing concern and assistance to the people in her immediate environment (Hobscheid, n.d.). This resulted in her meeting Nino, a man she grew to like and spent more time with, even though she did not have faith in love and the capacity of her core to trust.
In the movie AIMEE, despite having a difficult upbringing, she continues searching for happiness. Even though she had to be nudged into it, she ultimately finds fulfillment during the movie by assisting other people with the troubles that they are experiencing. For example, she was searching for the cap to something like a bottle when she discovered an old bathroom box full of nostalgic memories from her youth. She then embarked on this adventure to return the box. She felt it would delight the owner, and she knew that by doing a nice thing for someone else, she would experience joy. So because the antique box had a particular significance for the man, and Amelie could not predict how he would have responded to its loss, Campbell would consider this a brave deed.
Choose one character from each movie and explain how that character could rescue himself or herself.
In the movie “Pay it Forward,” the main character is a young man named Trevor McKinney, and his mother’s name is Arlene. Even though Arlene is an alcoholic, she still does her best to care for her son, Trevor. At the beginning of the movie, Trevor is at school, and the instructor, Mr. Simonet, has the class complete an assignment in which he instructs them to “think of an idea to alter the world then put it into action.” The concept of “pay it forward,” which Trevor comes up with, involves doing acts of kindness for others to ensure that the good deed is passed on to further people until everyone is performing acts of kindness for one another.
The video centers on lovingly giving to others and taking care of those in need, which is the primary subject of discussion for the previous two works we have seen. People have the intention of achieving well, but never to the extent that Trevor did, who accomplished his goals and could assist many people. Although Trevor was in a difficult situation, he could still do a kind act for those who seemed to need it the most. Wendell Berry makes reference to the fact that “The actual labor that has to be done to save the earth will be menial, lowly, and humiliating, but (insofar as it includes love), it will be satisfying and fulfilling.
It will have far too many occupations to count, far too many to report, far too numerous to be publicly acknowledged or rewarded, and far too few jobs for anybody to become wealthy or famous from.” In contrast to the older generation, who would argue that the world has once again become a peaceful place, the younger generation has a more positive outlook on the world’s potential to become a more compassionate and peaceful place in the future. Respecting everyone is among the first measures someone should take to bring harmony and caring into the world. Taking little deeds matters to make people happy and love one both laborer.
In addition to those mentioned above, your essay should discuss recurring ideas throughout the readings.
The movie deals with themes such as joy and contentment. Amelie is depicted as a hero because her life changes after she learns that Princess Diana has passed away. The first step on the path to her new way of life began while she was in the restroom watching television and dropped a bottle cap, which rolled across the floor and knocked out a loose panel. Amelie’s life is depicted as a hero because of these events. Amelie feels that she needs to hunt to find the owner of the antique trinkets and give them back to them; when she uncovers a box full of them when she peeks behind the panel. Her decision to give the lost item back to its owner marks the beginning of her quest to do good deeds, which she prefers to carry out successfully even though she will not be recognized for her efforts or given a reward (Ebert, 2020).
Princess Dianna is another hero to Amelie since her passing enables her to see the world through a new lens. Additionally, Amelie is reminded by Princess Dianna’s passing that life is nothing more than a journey and that, for some individuals, that trip will end far sooner than it does for others. Amelie rises to a level of sticking up for Lucien, who is insulted by her job at the local grocery store, by planning prank jokes that terrify the boss. She does this in order to show her support for Lucien. She had seen Lucien being abused and felt terrible for her, so she resolved to punish Lucien’s boss in order to frighten him off and get him to the left Lucien alone. Again, she had watched Lucien being abused and felt bad for her. On the other hand, Amelie continues to do good by assisting her elderly neighbor, Dufayel, who is afraid to leave his flat out of concern for the health of his bones. She observes that he spends all of his time indoors and does not have anything to watch, so she tapes entertaining segments from television and brings them to watch.
In what ways have you witnessed similar selfless acts of kindness? In what ways have you participated in similar acts of helpfulness?
The story “Pay it Forward” is about giving; for example, Trevor helps out several homeless people by asking them to his house for supper. The movie paints a clear image of how, if you perform good deeds for other people, those people will, in turn, do good deeds for others, and the world as a whole will be improved. Although it is not feasible to provide housing for all homeless individuals, some shelters are being provided by the local community and churches. This is currently taking place, and although it could be better, it is better than doing nothing.
My upbringing in a Christian household instilled in me certain morals and values, such as the importance of giving back to one’s community and donating items to shelters for the homeless and kids if one is in a position to do so. Using the philosopher Joseph Campbell’s concept of a hero, Trevor has been a hero to many people since he began his journey by helping the homeless guy. Trevor’s concept was that if he did something kind for one person, then people would also do the same thing for another person, and so on and so on. Trevor has set himself the ethical goal of building a community that is kind and considerate to all members and treats them respectfully.
A second hero is a lawyer who lends a Los Angeles reporter named Chris Chandler the use of his Jaguar when the writer’s automobile is damaged in an accident. After receiving assistance from a black American in the emergency department of a hospital, he made it his mission to “pay it forward” and became a hero for doing so (Drummond, 2022). Finally, Trevor assists a young classmate named Adam, who is the target of bullying at school. Trevor planned to assist several individuals who would, in turn, assist others, and the whole thing got started when the instructor handed out an assignment.
What do these characters represent all of us? We all have defects, demons, and vices. Take Trevor’s grandma as an example. However, she still tries to give this forward, so she does display some sacrifices & redemptive worth.
About the philosophical philosophy of John Campbell, the Black Eyed Peas are viewed as heroes because they have begun the journey of making people aware that the world is lacking love and that negative stuff is being done within the world even though we are not attempting to solve it. This is because the world lacks love. Black Eyed Peas are the hero in this scenario because they devote their time and energy to informing the public about the negative things happening in the world. For example, in one of their songs, they say, “Abroad, yeah, we try to stop terrorist acts, but we still ended up getting terrorists below livin in the USA.”
The hero is an extraordinary character, but he or she does much suitable for the people. This song sheds light on some of the evil perpetrated in Iraq by the United States in the name of achieving peace in the region. However, these actions are causing more issues within the country, with the people perpetrating these acts considered terrorists. The concept of ignorance refers to the state of affairs in which individuals choose to disregard the plight of those living in regions plagued by poverty and political unrest and, in some cases, even go so far as to discriminate against people of color in the United States and Mexicans. The Black Eyed Peas started on their path to becoming the champions of the people by releasing a song that served as a reminder to the whole world that we have a responsibility to love one another and that we are here for one another. After the assault that terrorists carried out on the country and the earthquake that affected other nations, the primary focus is on love.
