When Europeans came to the New World to explore, they were told of the rich farmlands, unlimited fishing potential, and forestry that provided opportunities for hunters and trappers.

Reason Two: Religious Freedom

• Topic Statement

In England, people had to worship and practice religion as the King deemed acceptable. The appeal of religious tolerance and freedom was very appealing to many     groups and provided an enormous amount of immigrants to flood over to the new world.

• Intolerance of British Monarch

Many Puritans came to the colonies to evade European oppression and discrimination regarding their religiosity and religious practice. Beyond the rich resources, there was a large appeal in the religious freedom over in the colonies.

Reason Three: Slave Trade

Topic Statement: Some of the people who immigrated were not given a choice in the matter. Many black slaves were brought from Africa to the New World. They primarily resided in the southern colonies.

Reason Four: Religious Promotion

• Christianity to the Native Americans

Another appeal to settlers was the idea of bringing Christianity to the Indians in the new world. There was the appeal of converting new people to the religion and there was a great amount of greed in the expectation of the financial gain of America’s untapped resources.

Conclusion

Restatement of multiple reasons and a historical context for the huge move to the original colonies
