Words: 281

Essay

The two topically diverse articles selected for analysis are “Mixed Transportation Network Design under a Sustainable Development Perspective” by Qin et al. and “The Sacred/Secular Divide and the Christian Worldview” by Kim et al. Both papers, although written on diverse topics, approach their discussions with a sense of expertise. It becomes apparent that both series of authors have studies their topics extensively and are therefore able to generate effective reports using an authoritative voice. Furthermore, both contain an abstract section to summarize the work, and the introduction section in both are used to describe past research and outline the gap of knowledge present in their respective fields that necessitate their current undertaking. As such, it appears that good authors write effectively and in doing so, convey to the reader that their work has meaning.

Furthermore, both works use suitable vocabulary for their disciplines, which furthers the sense of professionality that their works emits. The Kim et al. article uses words that are more familiar to the reader if they are aware of theology, while the Qin et al. article primarily uses words that developers and technology professionals would understand. Thus, both articles are clearly written for other professionals in these two fields. Last, while both articles contained graphs, these were seemingly more meaningful in the Qin et al. article because graphs were needed to convey mathematical and relational understandings related to the work because there was a lot of data available. On the other hand, Kim et al. used this technique, but their diagram contained information that would have been understandable in paragraph format. Overall, both articles appeared to be effective, but were constructed differently because their work contained different academic goals.
