Important historical events and/or cultural developments are often cited as the impetus for artistic change (style, subject matter, etc.) Discuss this statement for four historical periods, using specific examples to support your argument.

Art, often called as the mirror of the human soul, has long been used by artists to define the community that they are living in reference to how they actually interpret the matters that occur around them during specific eras in history. It is assumed then that the turn of events in history has relatively become a source of inspiration as artists strive to make a name in the field that recognizes their talent as well as the means of their self-expression. This fact could be seen as each form of art makes a mark on how a stylistic approach to a particular piece of art could be identified by the different elements existing in the community’s environment during the time when such approaches to artistic art have been formed.

The four primary eras of modern art history including the utopian era, post modernism, cubism and futurism, all impose a sense of utilizing the elements in the community to define the characterization of the art that are produced in each time development. For instance, the utopian art spurs from an era defined by the desire to create a perfect world, a perfect society for the human generation that has just gone through the most trying times in history. It then features the relative courses of artistic forms that follow the pattern of the idealism behind having a better life and gaining a better consideration of what the people want out of life.

Form this point, the ideas of post modernism develops which gives way to the condition of seeing art as a representation of what is new in the society. Specifically dependent on the ideas of capitalism and industrialism, it could be noted that the art forms produced during this time are dedicated to defining both the changing characteristic of the society because of the influence of both capitalism and industrialism during the time.

At the entrant of a new era dedicated to  the options of defining liberty and freedom, the era of cubism and futurism became evident in the society. Cubism is specifically a good depiction on the involvement of art in the different considerable forms of math and logic, which are often noted as the philosophy behind liberty, while futurism intends to manage the presentation of a free mind that foresees the different possibilities that the future could give.

Basing from these examples, it could be noted that somehow, the capacity of artists to be influenced by the elements surrounding them becomes duly represented in their works hence making their art a representation of the society they are living in. Consistently handling the hope of sending of a useable message to the public, artists become strongly dedicated to making a reputation  that might not necessarily given them fame, but could certainly allow them to become better remembered by the public they hope to influence. This is the reason why there are different forms of modern art that are relatively considered to be highly interpretative and specifically influential to the public the art forms intend to serve.

What is modern art? The definition has varied in different historical moments, but there are some basic issues that seem constant. Compare and contrast the meaning of the visual arts and the role of the artist in modern art.

Modern art is most often than not defined as the considerable option used by artists as they try to embrace the conditions of limitless art. Notably, it entails to surpass the limitations that has been established through the classical phases of art development. For instance, modern art welcomes even the odd forms so long as they represent meaning on the part of the artist and how he or she reflects the society through the work that has been produced.

Pleasing others is not what modern art is about, it is all about making something unique, something new and something that is acceptable in the community that the artist lives in. It could be understood that somehow, this is the reason why modern art is often considered as borderless and is defined by the desires of the artists and not that of the consideration over the possibilities of making something based on policies and rules of specific acceptability. How the people appreciate a specific art is what the modern era of art form is all about. This is the reason why the development of visual art is also considered as one of the most basic and most effective components of modern art. As a whole it entails to entice the visual appreciation of the target audience of the artists while also defining a unique reputation for themselves that could likely place them as specific expressionists who utilize more than just the ordinary form of art to define their thoughts and present their ideas to the public.

True to its sense, modern art is able to more than just represent the being of the artists, but also make a mark that would help the new generation understand a specific era that defines a specific phase of development of history. There are instances that it is not the figures nor the themes that are utilized by the artists represent that defines the element in history imposed in each art but the materials used to create the said art forms. Most often than not, critics of such form of arts specifically define the value of an art based on its visual worth. How much the public appreciates a specific art and how much they understand the meaning of each element as a representation of the society that the artist belongs to. As the art form is passed on from generation to generation, not only does it represent the being of the artist, but it also imposes to represent the history behind each element, each material and each theme used to represent the figures that are used in each produced art.
