Artists in the last two decades have faced various challenges in their works. One of the challenges includes language barrier. Artists who are new to a country find it difficult to express their feelings to their audience. The artist struggles to express the grief due to the loss of a loved one, but she finds it difficult to communicate to the audience because of new space and new words. Another barrier involves cultural differences affects artistic performances. For instance, the articles used such as BIOBOXES in Japan are not similar to the ones of used in Canada or Germany. Some artists feel uncomfortable putting on articles from other countries as they try to perform in the culture of foreign lands.

Another challenge involves the tendency of artist to side with certain ethnic backgrounds more than others do. For instance, artists performing African Canadian identify argues that the artists tend to invoke words that favour the black a lot. They use words that reincarnate the racial activities that took place in the past, and thus the plays tend to be against the white people. Multiculturalism in plays ought to address the present society in ways that does not harm the feelings of the audience as regards their race. The plays should address heritage needs of the audience.

Artists have never been free to in addressing political issues in the society. Politicians gag the artists’ freedom to air their political views. Those criticizing governments through their writing arts such as poetry do not have support to exercise their influence of art in the society.

Artists have also encountered a challenge in that certain sections within the society are unreceptive to their performances. The rejection often comes with the changing lifestyles, religion, and differences in culture. The artists have, however, strived to overcome these challenges by training to speak various languages in which they would like to perform. Some artists listen to critics and eliminate whatever irritates the audience especially as regards multiculturalism in the theatre performance.
