Assessing a Fictional Offender, Essay Example

Essay

Based on Mr. Badd’s history, it appears that he will need to be provided with a variety of community resources once he is released from prison. According to the redecitivism provision, it appears that Badd will experience a moderate need for these resources (Hanser, 2014). In particular, his mental health status and ability to take care of himself is concerning, which becomes an even more prevalent problem when considering that the current individuals who care for him are very aged. Furthermore, there is evidence of abuse in addition to the existence of other mental health and physiological problems, indicating that Badd needs both psychological counseling and possibly medical care. Furthermore, Badd does not have any assets and would need financial assistance, such as food stamps and public housing, upon release as well.

Despite the fact that Badd has broken minor offenses contributing to his imprisonment, it will be challenging for him to adjust to community supervision following the 15 years of incarceration. Due to his state of disability, it is likely that he needed constant assistance during this period of time. Badd’s basic needs including food, shelter, and clothing were met, so he did not have to worry about how he would obtain these items. Furthermore, it appears that even prior to this situation, he was dependent upon others for survival. This dependency is not expected to alter, and the government needs to provide him with supportive resources during his community supervision to ensure that he does not slip back into old habits. Overall, it is expected that Badd will benefit from the aforementioned programs, helping him get through this major transition.
