Part 1

The paper looks at the element of social cognition and its development. It starts off with a conversation between a mother and her child, where the child (Jeremy) tries to deceive his mother into having a cookie, but fails and illustrates his lack of understanding of the concept of deception; which can be termed as a failure in social understanding. The paper looks at the factors that are essential with regard to developing the element of social cognition. An essential factor is the development of an understanding of other individuals that are part of the society. This factor is essential in developing a social life (having friends and acquaintances) as they form an important part of individual’s lives.

Another factor that is essential in social cognition is the understanding of oneself. It is a vital factor in understanding oneself so as to gain an understanding of what one would require from other individuals. It is essential to understand what you would require from others and what you would expect to do for them.

The article also reveals that factor of understanding the mental states and activities so as to gain the definitive understanding of the factors that define or form social cognition. The aspect of mental state and activities are intertwined as the mental factor will be the determinant of the individual activities. In that aspect it is an indication that the element of social cognition is a factor that is influenced or affected by the element of mental state that will influence the factor of social elements and establishment.

Part 2

The paper with an outlook as to how to solve problems is a fairly informative paper and it provides a new dimension as to explaining the various factors that can be used to solve problems. The example of the conversation between Georgie and his dad is a definitive example with regard to establishing solutions to problems that may affect the general aspect of an individual’s level of function.

The paper illustrates how problem solving is based on the ideologies that relate to the elements of language memory, perception, and even conceptual understanding. These are factors that are fundamental in problem solving regardless of the type of problem. The general evolution of mankind has meant that these aspects have generally improved and have served to provide faster and more convenient methods of problem solving. Based on this deduction, it is evident that problem solving improves with both age and experience, and thus the reason that adults are ideal individuals at problem solving.

Problem solving is also based on the element of task analysis, which is a factor that is evident in the element of business. Task analysis is a crucial factor as the general structure of a task will be ideal in identifying the probable problems that may arise, thus allowing individuals to formulate solutions to the related problems.  Task analysis may also be essential in establishing a definitive solution that can be applied to a number of problems. It is based on analyzing a problem, and providing a constant solution to the problem in the case that it arises again.

The article also reveals the factors that are important in as far as problem solving goes, which are planning, causal inference, analogy, tool use, scientific and logical reasoning. These factors are essential with regard to formulating the right solution for any given problem. They serve as the combination of the elements that should be the key to problem solving. They serve as guidelines in the case that a problem is too complicated or may take a long time in solving. In conclusion, the article is general analysis of how the element of problem solving has evolved as well as the factors that have been established for effective problem solving.
