I agree that rules make classroom run more smoothly. Yolanda chose the way of respectful learning in engaging cooperation on ‘boot rule’ with Audrey instead of obedience. This strategy creates a support for growth and enhance the self-regulation capabilities because when children are given respect, affection and care in the decisions they like it becomes less problematic. Children grow into respectful kids when they are loved and cared for. A child is more likely to be a respectful one when he grows if he is brought up in a respectful atmosphere (Ozretich et al., 2010). In case of Audrey, this strategy of respectful learning help her to be obedient, grow and improve her self-regulation capabilities.
The strategy Helen used to gain cooperation from children was signing. This strategy is very effective as singing, comforting and talking to children gives an essential emotional environment of holding.
The strategy Yolanda used was respective learning to calm down Audrey. This strategy is different from that of Helen as it involved singing and in Yolanda’s strategy involved is screaming. According to Ozretich et al. (2010), ‘Children are inclined to follow their own decisions.’ In case of Audrey, we can see that even though Yolanda explained Audrey to try another boot but Audrey did what she had in mind. So, the strategy of Helen was more effective as children are more responsive when they are respected and cared for.
Interactions with the teacher support help Audrey grow emotionally and socially. We can see that Helen sings to the children to make them feel loved, cared and respected. Children benefit greatly when they are met in a responsive, respectful and loving manner. Giving the children affection and love makes them grow emotionally and socially (Ozretich et al., 2010).
The strategies to be used to convince Audrey to wear the yellow boots is to show them love and affection. Holding children in which they feel contained and safe will give them comfort. So, the strategy of affection, care and love will make Audrey to wear the yellow boots.
