Creative Essay

It was a beautiful morning in May; on the 16th day of the month in the year 2010, two young girls were to be baptized and welcomed into the Christian world. A child’s baptism is a celebration and declaration of the child entering the Christian faith and is an important milestone; this is a beautiful thing for the girls and their parents. Joe and Liz, daughter Alexis, along with Dave and Nancy, daughter Nicole, spent a month organizing the ceremony in which their daughters were to be dedicated to the Lord. Both families were excited about the event, and much anticipation was set before the date had arrived. The girls’ Godparents played a big role and were, too, looking forward to the dedication of the girls. John and Marcy were chosen by Alexis’ family to be Godparents; Fred and Kamila stood for Nicole. This was something everyone had put a lot of effort in preparing, and the day was set to be perfect.

On the morning of the event, the two girls were prettied-up in white dresses, white stockings and dazzling shoes. They looked radiant in the morning sun and resembled immaculate flowers on a fresh spring morning, blossoming as if the sun reflected their glow; both sets of parents were proud. The girls were picked up via limousines since it was their day to shine. They made two stops along the way – one at Joe’s house, and the other at Dave’s house. Parents, godparents, family and friends come together as a community to welcome the child into the church and to this world. The visitors came in with the welcoming sounds of beautiful African songs accompanied by drums for the entrance of the girls.  Everyone’s attention was set on the two beautiful girls who had a glow in them, more seen that particular day. The two families sit in the front of the church throughout the colorful and praise-filled mass conducted by Father Komu with the help of the altar boys. It was truly a memorable mass where Alexis cried out loud in her fear of the water; this showed her innocence in a cute way. The readings were conducted by Joe and Dave, the fathers of the girls. Joe led the very lengthy response which proved to be a mouthful, yet he tried his hardest not to get tongue-tied. The mass soon ended and was topped off with beautiful singing from the choir, which was conducted by the talented Mary. Everyone exited the church with smiles on their faces; the day was not over just yet.

The reception offered guests a variety of delicious African food. This was done all thanks to the preparation and organization of both families. Their efforts really shone throughout the day. The guests could not get enough of the a and b; everyone commented and praised the chef for the delicious c, not to mention the delectable d. These were all picked exclusively by the parents of the girls, and the reception as well as the satisfied guests proved that their choices could not have been more right for the occasion. The girls were seen to change their clothes from the white dresses to red ones with white patches, still looking beautiful, their new dresses added an edge. Guests from Kenya arrived the morning of the baptism; they attended the ceremony as well as the reception. The food received many positive comments and the guests from Kenya were seen in a jovial mood.

What is a baptism without speeches? Joe started it off with a speech which emphasized the importance of giving our children the best we can right from when they are young and also the need of acquiring the attitude of innocence from them. Also he touched on people coming together and combines their ceremonies as brothers and sisters in faith. As a community, a promise is made to God to help guide this child in a positive direction, this makes the day of Alexis and Nicole’s baptism extra special. His speech was followed by Dave’s which touched the bases on how happy he was about the people who came and supported his daughter, he also reinforced Joe’s speech in the coming-together as a community. The DJ, James, was involved in as well in the speeches. The ceremony was beautiful, and the reception was memorable – there was beautiful music, dancing and everyone had a lot of fun. When the reception ended, some families went ahead and others accompanied the two families of the girls to their home. At the end of the day, everyone had a smile on their face. This will be remembered for many years to come, and marks as an important day in Alexis and Nicole’s lives.
