Essay

My action research on the specifics of teaching in groups and individually depending on the students’ personality type lies within the second option offered in the task – the students chosen for analysis are my students whom I teach on a regular basis. The choice of this option is much more comfortable for me, since I need to investigate the learning and interaction patterns of students on a continuous basis, which is possible only if we meet regularly and undergo a certain learning course together. Hence, I have decided to conduct my scholarly inquiry in a group of my students, which also allows me to avoid certain bureaucratic complications on seeking consent and approval from students and their parents.

The issue of confidentiality and anonymity is a very serious aspect of scholarly research that every researcher should keep to as a specialist knowing the fundamentals of research ethics. As Wood and Ross-Kerr (2010) admitted, confidentiality of research data is not recognized by law; however, by promising anonymity and confidentiality to subjects, the researcher is bound by ethical guidelines and the rules of academic integrity the violation of which may inevitably cause the discrediting of his or her research and the loss of reputation within the scholarly community.

However, despite the anonymity of each separate participant, the overall research results and implications should become public, since it is the purpose of my research – to move the science of pedagogy and developmental psychology ahead. I would also surely share the research results (on the whole, without naming students) with my colleagues to inform them about the scientific merit of my study. Moreover, I would inform each interested parent about his or her child’s learning style and best learning approach that should be used based on the results of my assessment. Nevertheless, the data about each child will be available only to his or her parents, and no information about other children will be disclosed.
