Boeing’s tablet technology is a new IS strategy employed by the company and has managed to increase on its level of productivity. Moreover, safety has been boosted, which has left many technicians happy and in-love with their job. Hence, work in an environment that looks into employee safety measures. In addition, this MIS has managed an infrastructure essential for the functioning of the firm. Boeing has managed to use the resource-based view framework in providing a model that systematically aids in identifying the company’s core competencies. Mobile computing has perpetuated the intended balance required by Boeing to achieve successful firm operation. During the designing of Boeing’s IS strategy, the managers looked at the model and saw the resource as a key in the firms superiority performance. According to this view, the resources of Boeing managed to draw upon all its assets when implementing and formulating strategy. This framework employs that the company has certain attributes that enabled the firm to gain and sustain a competitive advantage.

In the case of Boeing, the tangible assets included capital, plant, equipment and plant. Moreover, the intangible assets include the company’s culture, brand equity, knowledge and reputation. In Boeing, resource heterogeneity is evident because of the bundle of resources and the presence of capabilities and resources. In the airline industry, competition is high, and it is necessary for individual companies to use strategies that are competitive and in this case, Boeing uses its resources in a unique way. Therefore, they are different from others in the same industry. Boeing’s employee productivity has increased after the introduction of tablets to the technicians. As such, they differ from others in the same industry due to their human and organizational resources.

In accordance to the above, it is evident that Boeing’s resource-based view has managed to capture the model called VRIO framework. This criterion implies that in order to gain competitive advantage, it needs to be valuable (V), which implies that attractive features have been added and thus, profitability of the firm is increased. Rare (R) looks at the uniqueness of the resource to the firm in terms of duplication by firms in the same line of operation. Costly in terms of imitation (I), talks about the ability of other firms reproducing the same tablet concept applied by Boeing. However, other airline industries are not in a position to imitate this view because the applications used are unique, and no platform has been used by the firm. Organization (O) of the firm is appropriate in order to capture the value of the resource. As such, effective organizational structure and systems of coordination among the technicians has enabled this to be achieved. For Boeing, mobile computing has enabled the firm interact its capabilities and resources in a way that created unique core competencies for the smooth running of the business operations.

In essence, the technology introduced by Boeing to its technician managed to leverage the firms business and organizational strategies. In addition, business value was created because productivity was increased, and safety measures enhanced. It is vital or businesses to look into the welfare of their employees because they are importance in the running of the business operations. Furthermore, this technology enabled the company to investigate the use of other programs and applications that enabled the operations of technicians to be smooth and effective.
