Executive summary

Information system technology is an important element in business organizations. The success in many organizations is determined by effective design and implementation of information systems that are capable of addressing the strategic needs, objectives and goals as set in the mission statements of organizations. Successful management of information systems for business is associated with intricate challenges, a scenario that is attributed to rapid change in technology (Abdisalam, Munir, Khalid & Muhammad, 145). Consequently, experts in information systems are obligated to thoroughly comprehend technologies and its application in supporting the core functions of business.

Goals and Strategies

The requirements for information system in a business needs integration in to a plan at a time that the business has identified the orientation  of its business activities as well as the applicable plans to achieve the goals. A strategic plan for Information system technology in a business must be able to identify the goals as well as strategies that have to be implemented. The strategies must focus on the monetary goals as well as the market plans that correspond with the goals (Bhatnagar, 98). The business plan therefore is the preliminary input in planning for information systems coupled with being able to impact of the forms of systems that are worth consideration in the business.

Market analysis

The progress that has so far been attained in information technology have positively impacted the lives of people and businesses in their daily life activities. A progressive evolution of technology has has been achieved with time thus opening up opportunities in business. Information technology has found wide application in enhancing effectiveness as well as efficiency in conducting business.

Organization and management

Escalating demand for information technology in business has created sophistication in business management. Organization and management of information systems requires adoption of suitable strategy that can effectively delineate the system and offer suitable approach to system management. Information systems are best maintained and developed through Strategic information systems planning, SISP, which play a critical role in propping up operations of a business (Laudon  & Laudon, 114). The business plan and information system plans must be aligned so that performance of business can be enhanced

Financial projections

Planning for Information system technology focuses on the panorama of entire organization to establish the type of information system required for a particular business such that the goals of the business are achieved. Large businesses spend much in this process because specialists and consultants must be involved. For small business however, planning can be accomplished in-house thus the cost is insignificant (King  & Teo, 667-679). A business plan is a preliquisite requirement in effective planning for a business information system as it forms the basis of the strategies as well as the goals anticipated to be achieved by the business. The details of the plan must then be communicated to the people who are responsible for plan implementation.

Limitations

The most critical limitation associated with Information system technology involves the cost. There are however other less significant constraints such as time, space, technical and operational factors. The planning process of an information system for a business therefore must account for the fact that, the most appropriate system may be unachievable after all, consequently, it is imperative to count on alternatives that fall within the bounds of the identifiable constraints.
