Can U.S. Deficit and Debt Problems Be Solved, Essay Example

Essay

Q1. Federal funding and control of K-12 education is a flawed system that should be eliminated at all costs. The states ought to realize that the federal aid is a culmination of the taxes paid Americans who reside in the 50 states: nothing is offered free. There is no urgent policy requiring the federal government to shoulder the responsibility of the K-12 education because America’s schools would comfortably run without this aid in the end.

Arguments that K-12 education is of national interest and, therefore, deserves the federal funding are flawed. In fact, the federal government carries out some activities that might not be of interests to states and local governments. One might term education as “national” issue, but that does not guarantee federal government involvement. States have the liberty to emulate schooling techniques from each other, but there is no reason for top-down regulation from Washington.

For some time now, federal government has injected billions of dollars into K-12 education. Unfortunately, it has little to show for it thanks to the epic bureaucracies, stagnant test scores, and excessive federal regulations that hamper local innovation. As such, it is my heartfelt plea that federal meddling in the education system should be scaled down and eventually phased out.

Q2. According to Greenstein and Horney, there is the “wide agreement” which suggest that changes in Social Security will not provide significant savings by 2015. It would be logically inappropriate to carry out policy changes, which may considerably influence people in the process of collecting their benefits or are about to become eligible for this program. In response to this, I presume Edwards would differ by suggesting that such a reform would encourage young American population to improve their personal savings, which would eventually boost the America’s economic growth.
