Introduction

Studies revolving around the effects of inter-parental or couple conflict on the involved children have been conducted for years and are well-established through secondary and primary sources. According to the available research, family conflicts that are intense, frequent, and ineffectively resolved are associated with adverse implications for the children. Notwithstanding the fact that periodic conflict between couples is a natural occurrence, and maybe even a healthy activity for strengthening the bond, and inevitable one, whereas children subjected to the same, may not necessarily experience any adverse implications.  Within the field of psychology, it is imperative to understand the dynamics, causal factors, and implications of the inter-parental conflict as it overtly manifests in both content and form.

Härkönen, J., Bernardi, F., & Boertien, D. (2017). Family dynamics and child outcomes: An overview of research and open questions. European journal of population= Revue europeenne de demographie33(2), 163.

These authors focus on refining the issue of life chances and well-being for children based on their respective family dynamics by determining the predominant variations in the children outcomes based on the aspects of family transitions and within the subpopulation of Europe. The authors develop their hypothesis around the general evidence gathered concerning parental separation while focusing on the exploration of whether the same dynamics prevail over the other family structures and transitions. To facilitate the effective development of this study, the authors embark on a qualitative approach by using secondary sources to collect information and foster the credibility of their findings.

As a result, it was found that parental separation is associated with negative implications for the children. These implications are lesser for the children with less-educated parents, which implies that the socioeconomic aspect in family instability does not play a significant role in promoting intergenerational inequality as it would have been commonly assumed. This article will be useful in my study as it provides extensive insights regarding the issue of divergence in family structures which are bound to increase the levels of inequality which is contingent on the similarity and strength of these effects across different groups.

Boostanipoor, A., & Zaker, B. S. (2016). The questionnaire of marital conflicts: a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). International Journal of Psychological Studies8(1), 125-32.

The article developed by these authors embarks on the use of a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) as the primary tool for evaluating the concept of conflict as well as its relevant dimensions across various cultural contexts. They used a questionnaire with 42 questions that are categorized into seven subscales, and it was filed by 270 participants. As a result, it was found that there are optimal psychometric properties as well as scholarly and clinical applications that play a crucial role in the determination of couple conflicts within the counseling setting.

The findings of this article are structured around the determination of factors leading to the development of a healthy and effective relationship which is based on the efficiency in supporting character formation of the involved partners as well as the establishment of a sense of belonging among them. This article proves to be useful as it will inform my study on the adoption and implementation of the CFA tool in measuring the concept of conflict and its variables across an array of cultural contexts.

Muñoz-Silva, A., Lago-Urbano, R., Sanchez-Garcia, M., & Carmona-Márquez, J. (2017). Child/adolescent’s ADHD and parenting stress: The mediating role of family impact and conduct problems. Frontiers in psychology8, 2252.

This article is founded on the aspect of family problems and their impact on adolescent children. The primary objective of these authors is to evaluate the demands of parenting as they are founded on stress, and an elevation in such stress levels may result in the deterioration of the parent-adolescent relationship. The study was conducted through an examination of parenting stress among adults with adolescents suffering from ADHD, and it engaged 126 mothers with children between the ages of 7 and 16 years.

The results reached through this study were based on an array of variables influencing the increased stress levels of mothers. These variables are; contextual, which include the perceived social support as well as the negative impact on the social life of the family and the children’s variables that entail conduct, the severity of ADHD symptoms as well as emotional problems. Since this article provides crucial information regarding the increased stress levels on mothers and their children or adolescents as well, the findings gathered will be useful in providing reliable insights concerning the marital conflicts arising from families with children that have underlying medical conditions compared to the families with healthy children.

Nasrullah, M., Zakar, R., Zakar, M. Z., Abbas, S., & Safdar, R. (2015). Circumstances leading to intimate partner violence against women married as children: a qualitative study in Urban Slums of Lahore, Pakistan. BMC international health and human rights15(1), 1-7.

This article takes a different turn to find one of the root causes of marital violence within the demographics of Lahore, Pakistan. As such, the authors focus on women married as children and their increased vulnerability of experiencing intimate partner violence (IPV) as they embark on determining the dynamics of such an unjust and unfair act. The authors recruited women who got married before the age of 18years and have been in the same marriages for over five years, yet they are still on their reproductive age. The interviews were conducted by professional individuals using the Urdu language that was subsequently translated into English.

From this study, it was found that most of the participants were not educated, worked as housewives, and had no stable income. Moreover, a majority of the respondents experienced abuse that prevailed as verbal, emotional, and physical from their husbands as they also reported unwanted sexual encounters from them. Such findings will be relevant to my research as they offer a foundation for the causes of domestic violence among most families, especially within the context of developing nations.

Selçuk, ?., ??cano?lu, Z., Say?l, M., Sümer, N., & Berument, S. K. (2020). Factors Influencing Children’s Appraisals of Interparental Conflict: The Role of Parent-Child Relationship Quality. Journal of Family Issues41(11), 2022-2044.

The article by Selçuk et al. (2020) promotes the idea that the adjustment of children can be influenced by the cognitive contextual model that is bound to foster the appraisal of children based on inter-parental conflicts (IPC). The IPC affects the relationship between a parent and their child, whereby the child may blame themselves and feel threatened at the same time. As such, the authors focus on investigating the mediating role of various aspects dominating the parent-child relationship, such as attachment security and psychological control, while considering the connection between threat appraisals and self-blame with IPC.

The development of this study was founded on the involvement of 1,309 participants who were children accompanied by their fathers and mothers. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis was used, and it showed that an increased IPC was linked to psychological control from the parents well as reduced attachment security. In this regard, the findings of this article will play an integral part in informing my research on the patterns of parental relationships across
