Chang, M., Cohen, B., & Greenstein, A. (2015). A Review of the Impact of Biologics on Surgical Complications in Crohn?s Disease. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, 1. http://dx.doi.org/10.1097/mib.0000000000000362

The process of anti-tumor necrosis therapy has transformed the Crohn’s disease treatment. Over the past fifteen years, the majority of Crohn’s patients with the disease will most likely require an operative management of their disease. There is no clear agreement provided in this literature to dictate whether the surgical outcome of patients who have had the anti–tumor necrosis factor therapy is better or worse. The article provides a highlight of the literature regarding the effectiveness of the treatment anti-tumor necrosis therapy on Crohn’s diseases during the perioperative period.

Ccfa.org. (2015). CCFA: What is Crohn’s Disease | Causes of Crohn’s. Retrieved 15 December 2015, from http://www.ccfa.org/what-are-crohns-and-colitis/what-is-crohns-disease/

Finally, it concludes with information on the various causes of Crohn’s disease and who is the most likely to be affected by the disease. It provides a lot of information on the history of the disease.

Jess, T., Gamborg, M., Matzen, P., Munkholm, P., & Sorensen, T. (2005). Increased Risk of Intestinal Cancer in Crohn’s Disease: A Meta-Analysis of Population-Based Cohort Studies. The American Journal Of Gastroenterology, 100(12), 2724-2729. http://dx.doi.org/10.1111/j.1572-0241.2005.00287.x

The article looks like the risk of intestinal malignancy in Crohn’s disease. Currently, the extent of the risk worldwide is unknown, and it requires a better understanding and knowledge of the prognosis of this disease. The aim of the study was to conduct a meta-analysis of a population-based study regarding data on the intestinal cancer risk associated with Crohn’s disease. The findings of this study support an increase in colorectal and small bowel cancer among the patients who have Crohn’s disease.

Nlm.nih.gov. (2015). Crohn’s Disease: MedlinePlus. Retrieved 15 December 2015, from https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/crohnsdisease.html

The National Institutes of Health provides vast information on Crohn’s disease in this one website. It provides resources for the basics of the disease such as summary, diagnosis/symptoms, and treatments and therapies. It also has data for learning more about the disease like learning to live with it and the genetics associated with Crohn. The website provides research information and a clinical trial that have been conducted along with their results. Finally, it has resources for those who suffer from the disease like finding experts and finance and policy.

Yeung, T., Sacchi, M., Mortensen, N., & Spinelli, A. (2015). Assessment of the Quality of Patient-Orientated Information on Surgery for Crohn’s Disease on the Internet. Diseases Of The Colon & Rectum, 58(9), 857-861. http://dx.doi.org/10.1097/dcr.0000000000000424

The article addresses the quality of information on Crohn’ disease that is available on the internet. The primary focus of quality is geared towards the treatment options and surgery that it suggested for the disease. There are limitations on the study because the internet is changing daily, so is the information that is available on the web. The article concludes that the quality of patient information regarding Crohn’s disease is generally poor.

Wright, E., De Cruz, P., Gearry, R., Day, A., & Kamm, M. (2014). Fecal Biomarkers in the Diagnosis and Monitoring of Crohn?s Disease. Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, 20(9), 1668-1677. http://dx.doi.org/10.1097/mib.0000000000000087

The monitoring and diagnosis of Crohn’s disease have depended on the serum markers of inflammation, clinical assessment, and endoscopic examinations. Fecal biomarkers now make it possible to determine the disease through lactoferrin, calprotectin, and S100A12. The article provides information about how new processes can be used for monitoring and the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease. The biomarkers change when the disease progresses and when it goes into remission.
