Causes and Effects of Industrial Pollution, Research Paper Example

All kinds of wastes have been generated by many businesses, industries, and/or institutions. While some of these wastes are nothing more than useless trash, there are often times materials that are thrown away that could prove to be potentially dangerous to individuals and to the environment. In this forum, five institutions will be discussed in terms of how their waste could damage the environment of the individuals living in said environment. Perhaps the most dangerous substances that colleges throw away are none other than laboratory wastes. The reason as to why these prove to be extremely dangerous is because some of them could prove to be chemically active and, if thrown away in the incorrect locations, a worst-case scenario explosion could occur, killing numerous individuals. Equipment repair shops throw away similar waste: ignitable waste and acids and bases. These materials should be carefully disposed of because if, say, an ignitable waste were to be thrown away in a location where firewood is available, direct sunlight could immediately cause a fire and put human lives at risk. Automobile engine and body repair shops and furniture manufacturing and refinishing operations both have similar risks, in that they can both release waste that can be harmful  to the environment. Such an example could be mercury containing devices such as thermostats and switches, which would not only be harmful to the animals that live nearby, but could also put human lives at high risk. Another factor that must be controlled is that of construction and demolition contractors. The kinds of wastes that are left behind by this is among lead contaminated paint chips, paint wastes, used oil, acids, and bases, which can mean that a lot of individuals in the surrounding environment could become poisoned with the materials being presented. In order to altogether avoid these kind of unfortunate events from taking place, all industries must take greater precautions when considering where to throw away their waste.
