Cell Phone Addiction and Social Influence, Essay Example

Cell phones have been referenced as cellular phones and cells. In addition cell phones are designated an abbreviation of cp which enables the user to communicate with anyone anywhere in the world. The cell phone was created by Dr. Martin Cooper who had been working in conjunction with a team of developers at the Motorola Corporation in April of 1973 (Demmitt 1).

In Maté (2008), there had been twenty years of experience with regards to a medical doctor who studied the focus of addictions. Maté (2008)details  the work that was conducted with individuals who were encountered in Vancouver on skidrow demonstrates that the use of cellular phones has become an addiction for some members in our society (Maté 221).  The indexes of cell pho9ne addiction demonstrate that there is a substantial social influence from mobile phone on modernsociety. Research details that cellular phones have changed social practices and modified the way we do business, yet surprisingly there is little perception on the effect of cell phones in our lives. (Katz 106).

There are many people who have completely supplanted the face to facecommunications with cybernetic communication. Research has demonstrated that some people pretend as if they are talking on their cellular phone in order to evade eye contact or the users play with the app simply for the reason of avoiding eye contact during social interactions (Gibson, 1).

Conclusion

Cell phones have been prevalent for more than a decade and the circumstances have become more acute with the presentation of smart phones. A person can do almost anything with a smart phone. They can watch videos, play games, browse the social networks and find directions to places anywhere on the globe. In addition, smart phone and cell phones are excellent due to the attribute of keeping in touchwith friends and relatives. However, cell phone use can be addictive.
