China and Latin America, Outline Example

The Issue

The competitiveness of China on the global marketplace and economic system is a phenomenon that has been examined by several authors in the past. Since 1978, when the country opened its markets to foreign investments, the country has shown a “dazzling progress” and attracted billions dollars. The economic, political and monetary characteristics of the country will be compared with Latin American countries’ features on the economic field, in order to find the reason for China’s success in international trade and find out whether or not the growth is sustainable.

Thesis Statement

The authors would like to examine the below thesis: “The growth of China’s economy is a result of the political, economic and monetary system’s effect. All three systems had equal importance in creating growth and success in international trade.”

Outline

Introduction

• Monetary issues of China in international trade. Examination of monetary mandates and policies to support export.
• Economic issues and policies in China in international trade. Trade structures of China as per analysis of OECD report (2006.p. 13.).
• Political and policy implications (Yang, 2003). Policies related to three main markets and their impact on China’s competitiveness: Japan, USA, EU.
• Zijian and Wei (2004) reviewed the path towards economic growth in China. This historical overview would provide a context for analyzing the processes and directions of international trade, in particular focus on export-oriented policies and monetary   decisions.

Literature Review

• OECD Competitiveness reports.
• IMF Report (2013). The relationship between China’s creditor status, the U.S. monetary deificit and international trade relations. Does this add to China’s competitiveness?
• Blázquez-Lidoy,, Rodríguez, & Santiso (2006) How does China’s growth impact the global economic situation?
• China’s economic build-up. Engel, . Fischer and Galetovic (2009). The inforporation forms and international partnership designs of China. Do they support the economy and international trade agreements?
• Comparison with Latin- America: OECD Reports (2011, 2013)

Discussion

• China’s emergence as economic power. (OECD 2006)
• China’s competitiveness: traits and features determined. Ianchovichina and Martin (2001) state that liberalization of markets has created the economic environment that supported growth of the country.
• Trade implications. Moise and Sorescu (2013) state that competitiveness of emerging markets are created by strengthening the trade agreements.
• Competitiveness based on price, policies and transport costs. Comparison of China’s price competitiveness with Latin America. Trade agreements, transport costs and effectiveness.
• The analysis of strengths identified in previous sections and literature review in order to determine which ones have the most impact on China’s competitiveness in the global marketplace.

Implications

• The main elements of China’s competitiveness. Main rivals: India, Indonesia and the Philippines. Determining the strengths.
• China’s efforts to integrate into the global trade community. (Yang, 2003). What can Latin America learn from China? Policies, implications, international relations and monetary politics.

Summary of Findings

• The main strengths of China on the global marketplace and the sustainability of international trade policies
• Recommendations for balancing international trade: reducing U.S. dependency on China
• Latin America: advantages review: location, language, existing trade agreements.
• Analysis of Latin America’s economic outlook. (OECD/ECLAC, 2011). Which strengths and weaknesses are the predictions based on? Comparison with China’s outlook
• China’s projected growth overview. Is the current path sustainable?
