Citizenship Education in Japan, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 406

Essay

I have always had an interest in understanding how the society works; what makes it work; social structures; and finally, how the actions of an individual can affect the society. I believe that having an in-depth understanding of the society is crucial to overcome social issues. This is what drives me to study sociology. The educational sociology helps us understand how social institutions and individual experiences affect education and its outcomes (Edward 50). Therefore, this knowledge can be used to not only understand a social issue but also to understand the reason for change and see the patterns of relationships between the state and people (Ronald 206). Sociology is an important subject to study as it affects many aspects of our lives (John 120). I believe the knowledge that I will acquire from the study will help me make positive impacts to the society.

I have observed that the rate of voting amongst the Japanese have been decreasing since the World War II. Thus, I want to research on this topic, I would like to utilize the sociological knowledge and experience that I have gained to explain this trend. I intend to approach this issue in a systematic manner. I will study how and to what extent the system of democracy as a PDCA system for improving the society is taught in Japanese Schools. To this end, I have studied policy evaluation institution as an internal PDCA system within the administration. I have also studied parliament debates as way of securing government accountability as PDCA system in parliamentary system of government. My next step will be to evaluate the voting, as it is the most dynamic PDCA system in democracy. In order to understand the voting issue, I will evaluate what is taught in Elementary – Junior High School about citizenships, the role of parliament as well as its members. In addition, I will also evaluate what is taught about the role of local and central government. Finally, I will evaluate the Japanese history since 1945. My experience and previous education will help me in this research. Moreover, I believe that this task will give even more experience on research method in sociology.
