Co-Lead the Walking Group, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 246

Essay

This weeks experience was exceptional because I had the chance to co-lead the walking group. The residence were being taught the importance of exercising, as such we would exercise with them for 30 minutes. Some residencewere less motivated to participate in the group exercise, however, during the last minute, all of the residents joined the group and it was great. My week was also exceptional because I also attended the advocacy group. From my observation, seven out of eight residents want to stay there for the rest of their lives. I ask myself why don’t they want to live independently? Some residents said they love being there since there is a lot of activities in which to participate. These activities keep them active as opposed to them living independently where they will be alone since there is no family around.

Another significant thing that today was library-group day; which is significant because the residents are allowed to walk around after completing their assignments. The major thing that happened was that one resident used all his money to buy drugs and shared with one of the resident that is totally not acceptable. The supervisor called the drug counselor and they were all tested positive. Now they have been assigned to go for drug counseling twice a week. Also their doorknobs will be change to lockless because they often lock their doors to prevent staff from coming in. I believe this actually is a good way to handle them.
