The art of proper communication is an important aspect in everyday life. However, inappropriate communication may lead to one being misunderstood and even described as ‘challenging’. The fact that some people have problems with their interpersonal communication calls for the need to assist them express themselves through various means like the use of speech and expressive language. By so doing, one is able to get the intended meaning rather than the words. In the field of health and social care, the use of effective communication skills has been given an intensive research and documentation with particular focus on developing professional to enable them engage in decisions where necessary (Epstein, 2006). It is important to note that communication also involves use of body language and facial expression and even the tone of the voice.

In the article, the following relates to chapter 26 textbook of Kozier &Erb’s , Fundamentals of Nursing Concepts, Process and Practice 9-ninth :The virtue of accepting the different cultures of other people so as to promote effective understanding, active listening also enables one to show interest and appreciation of an individual during the process of communication. Moreover, an environment that is free from any distractions also relates in the article. Finally, there is also need to use inclusive communication where necessary to aid cases of physical disabilities like sight impairment.

Being a nurse the article is of much significance as it clearly states the meaning, and importance of effective communication with patients. It also gives the means of handling those with difficulties in communication. By so doing, am able to establish a friendly and healthy environment with the patient by giving assurance and reducing stress and anxiety.
