Communication Issues, Essay Example

Essay

In the confrontation between Carly and Morris, it is clear that Carly has something to hide.  Most likely, she has kept the news about the project delays from us to hide the fact that she is failing as the project manager to have everything completed on schedule.  Gauging from the responses of other team members, Carly feels threatened by Morris and has treated him unfairly as a consequence.  These unnecessary feelings are obviously causing the work production to be less efficient and the project to be behind schedule.  Furthermore, the two employees likely have not had a conversation to discuss their differences because they are both ashamed.  Carly is probably ashamed of how she has treated Morris, but she continues to treat him poorly whenever she feels threatened by his skills and educational background.  On the other hand, Morris is ashamed at how he has been treated by his supervisor, Carly, and does not feel comfortable discussing their differences with her in private.  If this type of conversation were to be held, I think Carly would likely place the blame on Morris and would turn the conversation into a description of all of his faults instead of discussing the differences productively.

The biggest problem that this issue has caused is that the project has fallen behind schedule.  Both individuals as so wrapped up in the problem that it is being destructive to their productivity as well as that of other employees working under Carly.  Carly should definitely no longer be the project manager so this project.  She has clearly been unable to produce results based on a clear project schedule and furthermore uses her problems with Morris as an excuse not to do her work.  This is inexcusable for a project manager, and she must be relieved of her duties.
