Understanding What Real Education is About
The capacity of education to teach and train are two separate aspects of being instructed and getting ample lesson and support from such instruction. Relatively, schools are expected to guide their learners to become competent members of the real world depending on what particular part of the society they wish to join. The capacity of education to shape the minds and attitude of the students specifically define its role in the society in relation to how the people are able to embrace their own individual functions in the process of developing improvements in the society.
At present, as Kohn notes, education is becoming a source of stress rather than of inspiration to students. The quality of education provided in schools and other learning institutions are often dependent on how much output the students are able to present as proof of their learning progress. In this case, quantity is most often than not favored over quality. Question is, does it really mean that if a student works on too much, that he is able to work on something that is worthy enough of his time? The debate over whether or not the students should be given a bulk of activities to prove their learning capacities continue to serve as a source of disagreement among educators today.
As personal opinion on the matter, the author of this reflective paper intends to see learning to be more effective when it is able to stimulate the mind to think rather than to force it to manifest its learning capacities. This means that the quantity of activities do not often prove that the students are learning well, it only measures the amount of pressure that education is putting upon the shoulders of the learners. What makes a person who he is, is the matter that stimulates his mind to move and react. When learning takes this path, it often becomes successful in motivating a learner to apply and practice what he gets from the lessons presented to him. This capacity however comes from proper motivation and not from extrusive pressure that comes from too much activities making learning a hard process to accomplish and complete. Overall, it is then presumed through this reaction paper that learning with better sense of the quality of activities completed is much more effective than producing several testing outcomes that only weigh down the capacity of the learner to embrace what has been taught and apply what has been learned from the lessons given.
