Overview

This project entails the introduction of new equipment and communications technology throughout the company. This project will entail the installation of computer hardware and software, communication hardware and software to develop a network that will allow the sharing of data, programs, printers, scanners. This project will also entail the installation of a very secure network. My role is to coordinate and manage the project from its inception to its completion and handover to the respective stakeholders.

Project Objectives

This project is defined by specific objectives that delineate the different project deliverables. The objectives of this project are as follows;

• To develop and implement a secure Virtual Private network for transmission and sharing of data between the different departments.
• To install and implement new RFID technology on all commodities within storage.
• To automate the processes at the point of sale

The identification of project objectives generally involved engaging the respective stakeholders to obtain their vision and expectations of the project. This is essential in determining the desired end resul, as such highlighting the important objectives for this project.

The resultant identification of project objectives stems from the analysis of a number of project initiation documentation (PID). These included the following

• Business cases from previous similar successfully completed projects
• Terms of reference
• Communication plan
• Quality Plan
• Constraints
• Project Scope
• Project organization

Project Deliverables

The project will be guided by a list of deliverables that will dictate the most important aspects that mark milestones throughout the project. These deliverables entail the major sections and parts of the project that when complete will signal the completion of a major section of the project. In determing the project deliverables, I would conduct research on the various aspects of the project that are crucial for the delivery of a complete and successful final product to the stakeholders.

They include;

• VPN Server (Dedicated T1 Connection): this connection serves as the network through which information is shared and transferred throughout the whole facility.
• File Server: this is the server on which all information pertaining to inventory management and business information is stored.
• Firewall: this is the protection of the dedicated T1 connection from external attack
• Dell workstations: these are the points of access of the file server through the dedicated T1 connection. These manly entail the computer stations that will be used by staff and management in conducting day-to-day business processes.
• RFID Technology; this is the electronic product identification technology that will aid in inventory and information management.
• Training on New Network; this will involve training the company’s staff on how to use the new network and workstations.
