Course Retrospection, Essay Example

Essay

Here I would like to express my gratitude for the course I have taken. Before this I could not fully comprehend the importance of academic integrity in colleges and universities. I vaguely understood that the educators wanted us to complete the assignments on our own, because only in this way the grades may fairly demonstrate our academic performance. However, I did not see any benefits in integrity for me personally, because I considered that if one gets good marks, one is successful in his learning and he or she needs nothing more. That is why some students think that it does not matter how to get this marks, copying assignments from the Internet or turning for help to other people.

With the help of the course I understood that being honest during my college years is tightly associated not only with my future career, but also my personal development and improvement. So, the course helped me to analyze my personal qualities and decide which of them are to be improved. Moreover, I found out what personal values are important for me and studied which personal qualities I could develop to realize the values and how I could do it. I discovered also that to make good career in future, one should develop professional ethics at work. First, it enables you to respect yourself for being honest, second, helps to set friendly relationships with colleagues, and finally, contributes to the efficient collaboration and good research results.

What else should be emphasized is that I learnt how to work with literary sources not to violate the rights of intellectual property. In this the work “How to Prepare Citations, Avoid Plagiarism, and Achieve Real Academic Success” by Charles Lipson assisted me greatly. Moreover, it taught me how to read and analyze books efficiently, so that to get from them the most important information.

Then, with the help of the course I got acquainted with the peculiarities of collaboration work. I found out that it takes specific knowledge to organize the group work in a proper way.

I think that Q Course helped me to take more responsibility for my learning. I discovered that there some of my personal traits are still to be developed. Among them there are patience, tolerance, ability to concentrate, etc. I believe that these qualities will help me to improve my academic performance.

To my mind, in order to promote academic integrity one should always keep in mind that learning in college is not just acquiring knowledge that the professor gives to you, but also part of the life that gives you the opportunity to take advantage of all its challenges.

I also would like to emphasize that developing personal traits may help to get rid of main factors that influence the academic dishonesty. For example, if you cheat, because you do not have enough time for writing an assignment, you should learn to apportion your time. In case you find the task too demanding for you, it implies that you work not enough to keep up with the course. So, you should try to get rid of laziness and develop your ability to concentrate on work.

In addition, it is of vital importance to promote the necessity of academic integrity among the students, so that the see the benefits of it for their future life. Although it is a common practice in learning to help friends if they do not manage to keep up with the academic program, this help should be limited to common support and giving directions, but not completing assignments for them.

Thanks to this course I managed to understand fully the aim of higher education to comprehend the necessity of professional ethics and analyze my own personal values and goal that will help me greatly in future.
