It is capital city of the state of Parana. Its population increase reached an estimate of 5.7% per year at that time thus Curitiba was experiencing the highest growth in the country. Due to uncontrolled increase in population, the call for effective planning of the city in terms of sanitation and housing, transportation, environment, and social services is inevitable. The dramatic growth in the past few decades has seen majority of Curitiba’s residents live in favelas. They were no streets for garbage collection trucks to collect garbage and this lead to outbreak of all kind diseases due rodent infestation. There were no money also to solve this problems.

The city has experienced a huge economic and industrial development, which has hastened its growth. Its 30-year economic growth rate is almost 3% higher than the national average because of implementation of the effective master plan. Its per capita income is also two-third higher than the national one. Its industrial city that is well connected to the public transport system makes it easily accessible for workers. This industrial city provides housing and basic services for its workers to cut the need to travel in search from such needs. Most of the industries in Curitiba are non-polluting. Many job opportunities was created by the industries present in the city.

A new currency recyclables in garbage for bus tokens was created by Curitiba where garbage collected by students was exchanged for notebooks, vegetables and seasonal fresh fruits were exchange for biodegradable materials in the garbage. Sol criado is another complementary currency developed by Curitiba in its planning system and is commonly used by many cities. To take care of the needs of its citizens, Curitiba has adopted slum relocation plan. This aims at assisting low-income families.

A low-income housing was built near the center of the city by public housing Company of Curitiba. This is typical of the US cities and other cities worldwide. Thus, all these imitative are useful all over the world.
