Essay

Calcium is linked to bone strength and fitness. Osteoporosis in some aspect is also related to bone strength. Osteoporosis is the weakening of bones, which is the result of imbalance between bone building and bone destruction. It is estimated that about 8 million women have osteoporosis in an estimation of 10 million American population which means that woman are at a higher rate of getting the disease. Milk and dairy products are considered as rich sources of calcium which helps keep the integrity of the bone structure. Osteoporosis can only be slowed down in adults if adequate care is taken and not too much preformed vitamin A is consumed (The nutrition source).

However, a Medline study conducted showed that dairy products and milk do not contribute as much to the fitness system of the skeleton. The entire research procedure gave 58 studies in which 22 were cross-sectional, 13 retrospective, 10 longitudinal prospective studies; and 13 randomized, controlled trials. In about 27 studies there seemed to be no relationship between the calcium intake and bone strength or the formation of dense bone structure. In many researches; it showed no evidence that bone structure has anything to do with calcium intake. In young adults as well as children no evidence has been found that increase dairy consumption of dairy products and vitamin D made any impact on the bone health (Lanou, Berkow and Bernard 736-743).

In conclusion, there has been no result found relating intense calcium consumption and strong bone integrity. Intake of calcium and vitamin D does not have an impact on bone density and rarely is seen to promote bone health. Dietary products have little to do with how bone fractures happen late in life.
