Results is an upcoming independent romantic comedy film that is written and directed by Andrew Bujalski. It features Guy Pearce, Cobie Smulders, and Kevin Corrigan, among others. The film is set in Austin, Texas, where recently divorced, newly rich and absolutely miserable, Danny Corrigan, struggles to find health and happiness. Danny makes this struggle evident due to his poor eating habits and drug use. In an attempt to find both health and, happiness, Danny stumbles upon a local gym, where he meets the owner, Trevor Pearce, in addition to the irresistible trainer, Kat Smulders. Soon, the three of their lives are inextricably knotted together, both professionally and personally.

Results is about the contemporary self-improvement culture. This idea states that you can hire a personal trainer, different products, or act differently to improve yourself. While there is some truth to this, most of it is absurdity. They’re some things in life that you can’t “improve” your way out of. Danny, who is recently divorced, thinks that by improving his health, through working out and eating healthy, his personal problems will magically disappear. When he realizes that Trevor and Kat, who despite their standing as personal trainers, are even more emotionally unstable than he is, he decides to cancel his gym membership and plans a trip to New York to meet up with his ex-wife to rekindle the relationship.

Results targets the middle-aged men and women who are experiencing their mid-life crisis. The film tries to mix humor and romance in an effort to present this cliché topic a fresh new look.

Over all, Results is an enjoyable film to watch. While it is not perfect, the plot is entertaining and enjoyable. It appears that the director was trying to show us that we can find happiness in an imperfect world. However, while this message isn’t always clear throughout the presentation of the film, the conclusion was satisfying and the performances were commendable.
