Designing Surveys: A Guide to Decisions and Procedures, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 384

Essay

The sample questionnaire reviewed in this case followed the principles required for designing a questionnaire. The survey selected entails the information regarding the Insurance Customer Feedback. The outline for the survey is clear since all the items listed in its design aim at quantifying the number of individuals who have different types of insurance. The word phrasing provides relevant queries formulated in short items that are ordered or arranged in a way that would be easy to interpret.

The questions and structure of the survey identified for this appraisal does not violate any of the principles. The terms in the language used for the survey positively portray the expressions intended by the author. It achieves this while avoiding any embarrassing questions or ambiguity in the language.

The survey has a structure which highlights the leading questions independently, but, the question connotation for one of the queries posed on the survey leaves an assumption that is open to many answers. The 3rd question in the survey states: “How much did you spend, in U.S. dollars, last month on automobile insurance?” This question ought to be restructured to allow for specificity in the survey by first asking if one owns an automobile before determining if the much that they spent on insurance (Survey Monkey Website).

The measurement of variables is vital to testing any hypothesis. Therefore, including optional responses in the survey or questionnaire would be beneficial to collecting a wide array of varied information. The measurement of variables is helpful because it enables or eases the categorical analysis of data collected from the survey.

The posts reviewed from two classmates offer complex topics that ought to be critically analyzed by a respondent in order to understand the meaning of the questions presented. Most of the adjectives, verbs and nouns in the English language used either present a positive or negative connotation. It is worth noting that two words can have the same meaning, yet one meaning may be an insult, and the other a compliment.  Therefore, an advisable approach to designing an appropriate survey is to make all the items clear and concise. This would ultimately elicit relevant information from the respondent.
