Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder children and adolescents
Conduct disorder is a significant emotional and behavioral disorder predominant in children and teens (Evans, 2021). The condition is characterized by several antisocial behaviors, including delinquent, deceitful and aggressive behavior. Expert attributes the condition to several environmental, psychological, and genetic factors that interfere with the teen or child’s ability to learn from negative experiences (Marango, 2021). However, since the signs and symptoms of conduct disorder are generally linked to normal; childhood behavior, it is pretty challenging to make a proper diagnosis without the intervention of an adolescent psychiatrist (Savona, 2021). Early intervention is vital to alleviate the long-term effects of conduct disorder among children and adolescents (Vasilchikov, 2021).
Similarly, it is harder to diagnose the condition among girls since they can hide the symptoms. In addition, girls are more likely to abuse drugs and venture into prostitution at a young age, compromising their academic skills and qualifications (Kim, 2021). Therefore, it is vital to develop a program that will facilitate necessary interventions minimizing the impact of the condition in Philadelphia
Current development theories
The current development theories include:
- Erikson’s Psychosocial Developmental Theory
- Bowlby’s Attachment Theory
- Freud’s Psychosexual Developmental Theory
- Bandura’s Social Learning Theory
- Piaget’s Cognitive Developmental Theory
Erikson’s Psychosocial Developmental Theory
Central to much of his work was his theory on psychosocial development (Patton, 2021). As it became known, Erikson’s Psychosocial Developmental Theory produced a framework for organizing human growth into eight distinct stages through all stages of life (McCauley, 2021). Key to the outcomes of the child stages and those afterward are the principles of social interaction and experience.
Bowlby’s Attachment Theory
In Bowlby’s Attachment Theory, he asserted that much of child development is based on the innate need of children to form attachments (Sonnenwald, 2021). These attachments may involve any number of people, places, or things and ultimately substantially affect onward development patterns throughout life.
Freud’s Psychosexual Developmental Theory
Freud’s Psychosexual Developmental Theory was one of these essential products. Freud explained that child experiences, experienced at different ages in childhood, directly dictate personality and behavior patterns in the later adult (Evans, 2021).
Bandura’s Social Learning Theory
This theory states that while much child learning and development does come from direct experience, much also comes from modeling and simple observations.
Piaget’s Cognitive Developmental Theory
Piaget’s Cognitive Developmental Theory states that children, quite simply, think differently than adults. While this may seem obvious to some, this was a revolutionary theory that went on to provide the foundations for several other theories to come (Galan, 2021). Essentially, this theory divided the child’s life into four categories or stages, each of which carries important qualities and vulnerabilities.
Factors that contribute to the prevalence of the Condition Disorder
According to a study conducted by Buchanan, conduct disorder is attributed to severe undesirable antisocial, chaotic, and violent behaviors leading to a high juvenile detention rate of 7% (Galan, 2021). In Philadelphia, the condition is attributed to 3500 individuals receiving inpatient treatment within psychiatric institutions. However, according to the DHHS, the condition is more prevalent in cities (Galan, 2021). In addition, an estimated 40% of adults grow up without being diagnosed with the condition, thus developing an antisocial personality disorder with lifelong implications.
Comparison of development theories
Developmental theories provide guiding principles and concepts that describe and explain human development (Galan, 2021). Some developmental theories focus on forming a particular quality, such as Piaget’s theory of cognitive development. Other developmental theories focus on growth throughout the lifespan, such as Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development (Galan, 2021). It would be natural to wonder which perspectives provide the most accurate account of human development. Still, each perspective is based on its premises and focuses on different aspects of development (Galan, 2021). Many lifespans develop mentalists use an eclectic approach, drawing on several perspectives simultaneously because the same developmental phenomenon can be looked at from several perspectives.
Contrasting opinions regarding prevalence and diagnosis of Condition Disorder
To qualify for an official diagnosis of conduct disorder, there must be more than a few isolated incidents of extreme behavior, such as running away or vandalism. At some point in their lives, most youngsters display some degree of incompetence or misbehavior. For children with conduct disorder, breaking the rules repeatedly, acting aggressively, or ignoring others is the norm. The signs of conduct disorder are not considered until they have been present for a year or longer. Behavioral abnormalities severely impair social, intellectual, and vocational functioning.
