Essay

This paper explains and elucidates the community evolution and organizational representation for the Doctor of Nursing Practice from its first introduction to the 21st century.

It is established that the need for doctor of nursing practice is due to the ever increasing needs of the society, particularly in the health care industry.  The need for the DNPs was first spotted in the 1965 and proposed that DNPs be given a closer look as a way of solving health care providers in child health treatment centre (Moran, et.al, 2013). Because of the increasing needs of health care improvement and advancement, the demand for DNPs had likewise increased. This is particularly needed in the ever growing and changing health care system. The organizational representation of the DNP is based on the advocacy of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. The College endorses the DNP to be the highest academic achievement that a nurse can get. As a matter of fact, the DNP has been established to be a single pathway for nurses to further their skills and practice and acquire a degree that is similar to that of a doctor. Meaning to say, they are nurses with high academic and clinical skills and practices that can perform certain doctoral functions but they are not doctors. This is one of the best advocacies that have been pursued to assist and improve health care especially in rural place where there is scarcity of doctors. With this, a significant raise in number of graduate nurses has been recorded. Many nursing programs are now integrating DNP program in the curriculum to accommodate advance practice nurses. It is being predicted that DNP will continue to evolve and will persistently move forward for as long as there is a need for more staff, policy-making, decision-making, innovations and reform in the health care system (Dreher & Glasgow 2010). In the same manner that DNP will continue to dominate nursing schools, the educational systems and especially the delivery of health-care related services. In this evolution and representation, it cannot be denied that it is the society who will receive the benefits of it.
