This article alerts the public to advertising scams, which may be so subtle that it is difficult to detect. Further, the article admits that even though consumers may be suspicious of these advertising gimmicks they are still lured into purchasing the product. When this is done often it is found that their first mind was correct. The article directs consumers to agencies where these companies can be reported and investigated. From researching a number of companies were identified and a list was provided in the article alerting consumers of their advertising tricks. This source would be used as supporting evidence to show that advertisement manipulates the public into purchasing items, which they do not really need. It does not just inform the public.

The author contends in the article that advertising is perceived as construction of semiotic worlds embedded in a rhetorical purpose designed to sway purchasers into buying the products that are advertised. The article discuses advertising restrictions pertaining to health insurance policies contained in the Affordable Care Act. Its applicability to the topic shows where state entities could also serve as manipulating forces in advertisement. While it becomes mandatory that citizens buy health insurance to cover their health care needs choices are limited to offering of the state. At the same time insurance companies cannot market alternative products to clients. In my opinion this is a form of advertising, which manipulates public choices. This article reviewed of memory-based advertising techniques comparing the types of measurements used in determining the effectiveness of advertising strategies. The researchers also attempted to show how recognizing the product is vital to perceiving its value. They concluded that memory manipulation is an important technique when forced choice is applied to advertisement. This makes the article a very useful source for the essay. The article examined the influence of advertising on rural children age 11-18 tobacco consumption. The researchers proposed that tobacco advertisement was responsible for these teens decision to smoke tobacco. One thousand six hundred and fifty four students were recruited for the study. Results revealed that these children had a very high exposure tobacco advertisement rate. Even though these youth were illiterate advertisement had a strong manipulating influence on their tobacco consumption practices. However, after using words, figures of speech and charismatic devices the public accepts their jargon without questioning.
