Ecton Cardiac Echo Machine, Case Study Example

Pages: 1

Words: 328

Case Study

As the entrepreneur of Ecton, I would not consider selling it to a large company. Instead, I would prepare to remain independent. This is based on the 2 by 2 matrix of technological disruption which highlights the strength, weaknesses, opportunities and threats associated with the introduction of new technology into a highly competitive market.

Strengths

Ecton’s Cardiac Echo machine is a portable machine that is also much lighter in weight as compared to the existing cardiac echo machines in the industry. This provides Ecton with a high advantage over the competition as clients and hospitals alike would prefer portability to the existing large and heavy machinery that occupy both space and resources, like energy.

Weaknesses

Ecton is a start-up company that may lack the financial resources to both keep up with the production demand that may be experienced should the product receive a positive reaction in the market.

Ecton may lack the expertise to properly market the product considering the company is a strat-up. This is because the resources required to launch marketing campaign vigorous enough to challenge the existing market leaders such as Hewlett Packard, are vast, something that the company lacks as a strat-up.

Opportunities

The market is currently flooded with heavier and bulkier cardiac echo machines that require both vast energy resources and space. This provides a market gap which the Ecton cardiac echo machine can be able to fill.

A rapidly growing market that mainly uses ultrasound to create images of structures that are relatively static in the body proves for a large market base for the Ecton cardiac Echo Machine.

Threats

Hewlett Packard’s refined edge detection algorithms that are present in all their echo machine models proves for a huge threat to the Ecton Cradiac Echo machine. This is because this algorithm provides for high quality detection that provides for high quality images.

Owing to the fact that Ecton’s Cardiac Echo Machine has image quality that rivals the quality of existing competition. I would not consider selling this technology to a larger company.
