Essay

Introduction

Presentations are important aspects of good business. The fact is, almost every good businessman is expected to know how to present good presentations that are able to give him or her edge over the others. When making sales or proposing a particular developmental factor for the organization, a businessman needs to know how to make use of his resources and convey them into an effective message to his listeners. Candice Thomas (2008) of Ohio University gives a brief overview on the matter through her written work regarding Conquering Speech Anxiety. Relatively, she mentions herein that speech anxiety often gets the best out of a presenter. Sometimes, the nervous approach of a presenter ruins the whole presentation even though there are useful resources utilized to enhance the performance. This is the reason why it is very important for presenters to consider how they are able to control themselves and their attitude towards the report in balance with their attitude toward their audience and their expectation on themselves. One way of reducing anxiety is being prepared with all the necessary tools needed for a good presentation which shall be further discussed herein.

Types of Media Presentation

On the other end, Malvicini and Atkinson (2009) tried to refine their discussion on the matter through pointing out that the availability of good resources for presentation builds up great confidence among the presenters. The truth to the matter is that media resources such as photos, videos, graphs aided through the use of modern technology such as powerpoint presentations help speakers keep their nerves down and become more focused with the topic that they are hoping to share to their audiences. It is with this approach that presenters become more comfortable with their subject hence become more productive in their assigned task.

Productivity of Using Media

Being productive through the use of right media creates a more dependable business man who is not only able to convey good message but is also able to enhance information based on the resources provided to him (Thompson and Mc Nut, 2009). This particular idea is suggested by both Thompson and Mc Nut as they discuss the musts and must not’s of handling power point presentations. It could be analyzed that sometimes, as powerful as technology enhanced presentations are, the incapability of the presenters to use them well makes the whole aid useless. Relatively, Thompson and Mc Nut advice that presenters should first study the basic rules on some media aids before they actually utilize it for actual operation.

Interaction with Audiences

The primary pitfall of some presenters is the fact that at times, when they become too consumed with their topics, they become lost in it that they forget the audiences. Interaction with the audiences is another matter that Thompson and Mc Nut (2009) discussed in their study. They insisted that the effectiveness of a presentation relates on how capable the presenters are to engage their audience into the matter hence making them a great part of the discussion. This keeps the focus of the audience on the matter being presented while also giving the presenter a chance to make important points all throughout the presentation.

Attention from Audiences

Getting the attention of the audience is the primary reason for one’s need to enhance a particular presentation. How then could one get the attention of the audiences? Thomas (2008) relates the need to make a convincing argument that the presentation is important and that it affects the values that the audiences are most connected to. Establishing this with a confident approach to the matter shall set the interest of the listeners hence creating a more refined stand for the presenter.

Conclusion

The willingness of a presenter to go beyond what is expected of him goes a long way in affecting the way he presents a particular subject to the listening public. The stakeholders of a particular presentation ought to know the reason why they are listening to the presentation and how the information shared to them would affect them personally and as part of the business. With the utilization of the right tools and the establishment of good confidence in front of the target audience, a presenter would surely be able to become productive not only for himself but for the organization he works for.
