Leaving children in the supervision and care of another individual  calls for a high level of trust between parents and caregiver. Frequent communication between caregivers and parents fosters and creates a sense of trust between home and daycare. Furthermore, a solid, reciprocal relationship helps the capacity of parents and caregivers to address any issues or problems that may arise. Such a relationship foments a sense of respect and appreciation, which helps children feel more at ease when they are in day care if they sense a positive relationship between parent and caregiver. Such a relationship requires that each party openly share information with one another since a parent is absent from day care and thus does not have knowledge of what transpires throughout the day. Openly communicating with the caregiver facilitates information sharing about daily activities while a child is not in the care of their parents. In addition, parents can stay updated about any upcoming events such as class parties or open houses. Reciprocal communication assures parents that they have full knowledge about a daycare center’s policies and regulations in addition to center expectations of the parent such as when kids must be picked up and policy on ill students. Regular communication between the parties also creates a sense of continuity between home and daycare institution. Children develop their own personal habits within the home setting, so it is important for parents to convey to the caregivers some of these habits so that the caregiver can be more prepared and equipped to care for the child on an idiosyncratic basis. Collaboration is thus of paramount important in caring for children on a quotidian basis.  If trust is broken, it can only be restored if trustworthy behaviors are exhibited on a daily basis.

Parents/Caregivers often possess many opinions about what a child “should be learning” in daycare. Measurable goal/objectives retains the capacity to be a significant communication tool if used correctly. Measurable goal/objectives always match, and they are skill-based and child centered.  The child/ren  who spell five times a day with a teacher for twenty minutes will become proficient spellers after a month.
