Words: 368

Essay

Web-based education for advanced practice in the field of obstetrics requires an understanding of its benefits and how it might impact quality of care for patients across all age groups, including high risk patients. Educating practitioners supports their ability to educate their patients effectively to improve prenatal and postpartum care, particularly for those who are of higher risk (Wang & Kim, 2015). This requires a set of communication tools which expand knowledge for practitioners and influence their decision-making in treating patients, such as those in high risk groups. Most importantly, advanced practice objectives in obstetrics may be suited for a web-based strategy to provide a different approach to education and in supporting the ever-increasing demands of this practice area. Web-based education may offer a user-friendly approach to expanding the knowledge base of practitioners and in supporting improvements in their ability to provide high quality care for patients.

Prior research indicates that web-based education for practitioners is often effective in efforts involving continuing education and in expanding knowledge to achieve the intended outcomes in patient care (Kaplan et.al, 2013). In addition, it is important to develop a strategy that will encompass new perspectives and utilize technology-based resources in an efficient manner to improve expertise. There are a number of advantages associated with web-based education, including the mobility of this type of technology at virtually any location, along with the potential cost effectiveness of this strategy. Therefore, it is important for practitioners to utilize this option whenever possible to improve their knowledge and to connect with other persons in the same field to share experiences and aim to grow the profession. This process provides an additional learning curve for practitioners that supports their growth and ability to offer expert care and treatment to obstetrics patients in a timely and efficient manner to meet the needs of this population.
