Elderly Nutrition Program

This program is called the Elderly Nutrition program. It is managed by theU.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Community Living, Washington DC 20201. It provides meals for individuals who need them most. The meals could be picked up by the elderly person or relatives. Meals can also be dropped off at their residences.  The home bound elderly receives  a brief companionship service for a few hours when meals are delivered. For individuals to qualify they must be 60 years old and over. Their income level has to be within the eligibility bracket of poor (Administration for Community living, 2014).

Goals of this program includeproviding at least 73% at high nutritionally at risk elderly and 25% moderately at  risk elderly with meals. This program is funded by the US department of Human Services Washington DC. The elderly do not pay for any services. They are free. The program will greatly benefit seniors because many of them receive a small social security income and are low income earners. Also, they may not have enough money to buy food after paying for healthcare. There was no difficulty in accessing the information because it was online, but the elderly may find it difficult if he/she is computer illiterate. In my evaluation this program works fine for elderly in the community as it is being managed currently (Administration for Community Living, 2014).

South Central Council of Governments

This program is named after of the funding agency. Hot meals are provided for the elderly who must qualify after age 60 years old and within the low income bracket. Jasper Bertero is the director. In home meals are offered. Guests pay a fee of $4.00 and persons below age 60, $2.00. It is free to the elderly who are eligible. Meals are also provided at satellite centers where the elder can go to eat as well as relatives could do a pick up for them.Home bound meal services are, however, limited to the Trinidad and Walsenburg communities. This information is acccesible online. The elder would hardly likely be able to receive it except if communicated by friends. Currently, while the administration wishes to expand this program to neighboring communities, they will need more staff to conduct the homebound meal delivery service(South Central Council of Governments, 2014).
