National Electrical Code

The national electrical code is a standard that is applied in order to ensure safety in electrical wiring in residential and industrial installations in the United States. The National Electrical code is implemented by regional governments in order to ensure that the standards for the installation and upgrades of electrical systems are maintained. The national electrical code is endorsed by the American National Standardization Institute. In the United States, anyone who does not adhere to the requisites of electrical installation with regards to the national electrical code and conducts an action with regards to electrical installation or upgrades that has the outcome of injury or loss of life can be held accountable in a civil liability legal action. It ids advised to sued a licensed electrical contractor in order to review the schematics for the residential electrical system prior to their installation (Williams 7).  The thesis of the essay is the electrical configuration of a design for the 1950s home which is being remodelled.

Components in the Residential Electrical System

These components are the panel board, branch circuit and the service entry. The location in a home where the electrical service enters the home is designated as the service entry. The service entry is perceived as an important location in fundamental electrical wiring. The entry lines must be secured at a height of a minimum of ten feet above the ground surface. In addition, the electrical lines must be unavailable from the residential windows. The service entry should not be obstructed by tree limbs. The service entry should be designed in the correct manner where it does not provide obstruction to the entryways of the home (Williams 40).

 Panel Board

The panel board is perceived to the administrative center of the home. In this design, it would be most effective to place the panel board in the laundry room. In the consideration of an electro domestic device in the home, there may be the requisites of additional wiring. In the installation of the additional wiring, the panel board should be maintained in the inactive position. The panel board is the device which is composed of circuit breakers in the redesign of the residential electrical system (Williams 157).

Branch Circuitry

The branch circuitry is the lines which demonstrate where the panel boards provide direction for the electrical currents. Considering the operation of the branch circuits, the power in one part of the home can be activated while the remainder of the electrical service in the home is not acti8vated. In this design, the electrical switches are demonstrated by the “+” and the electrical outlets are demonstrated by the “?”. The electrician must be able to read the electrical design prior to performing the residential wiring installation.

Color Encoding of the Electrical Wiring

Prior to performing any type of electrical connections, the type of wire that is required for the installation must be ascertained. . The color of the wire is determined by the circuit load. In the electrical installation, the color codes of the wires are extremely important. The color codes provide details with regards to the electrical wires being ground wires, neutral or hot wires.  The determination of the wires that possess adequate dimensions is important in order to administrate the amperage which flows through the wire. In observing these steps, the electrical circuits can be installed in the correct manner. . This will cause the residence to have safer characteristics (Williams 65).

Connections for Electrical Service

The conducting of the correct connections to the components of the electrical service will maintain the electricity flowing in the home without interruption. Prior to attempting to connect and electrical meters or panel, the location of the wires on each of the installations must be determined.

Electrodomestic Appliance Connections

The electrocdomestic appliances should be connected adequately in order to provide safe electrical service. There are some eloectriodomestic appliances which require outlets which distribute voltages of 120 volts. There are other electrical outlets which distribute electrical energy that are assessed at 240 V. The adequate power supply for the electro domestic appliances is very important (Williams 65).

Use of Multimeter

The multi- tester which is an electrical examination unit has the capacity of measuring voltage, amperage and resistance. The multi- meter is a device which is hand held that can be applied for finding basic faults with a high level of precision. The multi-meter can be applied for the trouble shooting of electro domestic appliances and wiring systems (Williams 10).

Residential Electrical Wiring

The electrical system in the 1950s home is comparatively simple. There are low requisites for power and the majority of the electro domestic appliances consume 120 V. The wires which will replace the old electrical installation are color coded and covered in plastic. The wires which will be positioned underneath the floor are covered in conduit or steel encased cable (Williams 41).

Conclusion

The design that should be reviewed by a licensed electrical contractor prior to its installation. The observance of the regulations which have been established by the ANSI and NFPA is required. The observance of the regulations established by the NFPA and the ANSI will ensure trouble free operation of the electrical system in the residence. All of the wiring in the home is designed for 120V.
