Learning lesson 1: What is happiness?
Objective: to understand what makes me happy and interpret/appreciate the happiness of others.
=Reflection – Reflecting on sections 1 and 2 of Dalai Lama’s perspectives of happiness, makes me ask myself deeply what happiness is. How can I define my own happiness or what are the things that make me happy? Dalai Lama made the declaration that every activity in one’s life leads to happiness and the things we do are really intended to make us happy (Lama, 2010).While this is true my contention is that 75% of the things we strive towards, do not make us truly happy even though the intention was for happiness. Then what is it? My conclusion is that happiness is filling a void in the soul, which cannot be filled by anything else we do. Therefore, things cannot bring happiness it is the engagement in our purpose that makes us happy.
Learning lesson 2: How does knowing my purpose makes me happy?
Objective: To understand how way purpose is aligned to happiness?
Reflection – During my reflection it became obvious that when tasks were undertaken, associated with my purpose a passion evolved. It manifested as an exceptional inexplicable energy force propelling the outcomes. They are always accomplished at a very high level with minimal effort. Besides, one enjoys performing the duty when engaging in the activity. Precisely, it was clarified in Dalia Lama’s account of essence of happiness that a person’s purpose ought to be aligned to happiness, while being the purpose of every undertaking in life. In my opinion this is the great teacher’s philosophy concerning the essence of happiness (Lama, 2010). In my experience once the activity brings me joy, produces favorable outcomes and can be performed successfully with no extreme effort herein lies my happiness embodying my life’s purpose. According to the wise teacher these are the causes and conditions informing my happiness (Lama, 2010 ).
Lesson 3: How is human warmth and compassion managed?
Objective: To identify warmth and compassion in human interaction
Reflection – In my reflection on Dalia Lama’s work pertaining toEssence of Happiness this is a very element in predicting the level of happiness expressed among families, spouses, friends and within communities. The degree of violence experienced today in our world one wonders where is the human warmth and compassion. The number of child molesters, absentee fathers, neglectful mothers and rampant atrocities it is difficult to finding human warmth and compassion. However, it was emphasized in the production Essence of Happiness that warmth and compassion are byproducts of happiness. It is almost impossible for a happy person to be violent and abusive to others.
Lesson 4:Transforming Suffering and Overcoming obstacles
Objective:To identify suffering/obstacles and develop coping strategies
Reflection – In my reflection of these two sections the question related to whether suffering can be ever be transformed in our world. It would appear that as life goes on there ate more types of suffering emerging. People continue to die from incurable diseases and every day new deadly viruses are being discovered. How can suffering be transformed and obstacles removed? When relating his situation to happiness achievement, it can be concluded that happiness while a state of consciousness is relative. Essentially, people in some of the poorest nations of the world seem to be happy passionately conducting their routine. Others in developed nations are disconnected with what seems to be the best of conditions. There seems to be no joy in their lives.
