Research Paper

Introduction

Obtaining adequate level of information literacy, and learning to use scholarly library databases effectively is one of the main factors of academic success. The Northcentral University has an advanced support system to guide students through the process of selecting relevant, reliable, peer-reviewed sources. The online guide about the research process, explaining all the relevant steps (NCU, n.d.)  has provided the author of the current review with important information about locating publications relevant to the current research: organizational leadership.

Academic Integrity Policy of NCU

The Academic Integrity Policy of the university (NCU, 2014) prohibits any form of intentional plagiarism. It also highlights the importance of using the text matching service. All assignments need to be processed through this system, to screen them for intentional and self-plagarism. Self-plagarism is copying the text (fully or partly) of a previously submitted assignment. Non-compliance with the university’s academic integrity policy can result in a disciplinary action, and – in serious cases – dismissal.

Library Search Process

The online search facility of NCU allows users to search for keywords, and filter the results to include only Scholarly/peer-reviewed journals. The list of search results provides an overview of the sources, such as publication date, journal title, and subjects covered. Once the student decides that the record is relevant to their assignment or dissertation topic, they can click on the  link that takes them to the full text pdf (Acrobat Reader)  file.  Students can also get more details of the article, and add it to their folder.

Leadership Styles and Organizational Commitment

Pierro et al. (2013) examines the relationship between leadership styles and commitment within organizations. The interaction model that is created to demonstrate the impact of power on communication is an interesting framework used to analyze leadership within organizations. The authors (Pierro et al., 2013, p. 1133) found, after reviewing related research, that “transformational leadership style accentuates employees’ willingness to comply with soft power bases”.

Ethical Leadership and Organizational Commitment

Sedat, Bora, & Ali (2015) focused on analyzing the relationship between organizational commitment and ethical leadership traits. The authors clearly define ethical leadership; its traits and characteristics, while reviewing its relationship with organizational commitment and employees’  job satisfaction. A positive correlation between ethical leadership and both organizational commitment and job satisfaction was found.

Organizational Culture and Transformational Leadership

One of the main assumptions of leadership research, according to Veiseh  et al. (2014, p. 114) is that “leaders play a key role in the organizational transformation”.  Examining the impact  of inspirational motivation, intellectual encouragement, purposive influence and individual  observations on organizational culture, the authors (Veiseh et al., 2014) found that some (not all) transformational leadership traits positively impacted organizational culture.

Evidence on the Impact of Ethical Leadership on Organizations

Demirtas (2015) examined how idealist and relativist ethical ideologies influence the culture of organizations. The field study provided evidence that ethics played an important role in creating norms for organizational behavior. The research was carried out reviewing the related literature and surveying one thousand public  sector aviation employees.

Servant Leadership Theory

Parris & Peachey (2013) reviewed the servant leadership theory with regards to its impact on organizational behavior. The authors (Parris & Peachey, 2013) found that “servant leadership theory is applicable in a variety of cultures, contexts, and organizational settings”, therefore, it can be applied in various future research settings in order to create ethical frameworks for organizations.

Conclusion

The above literature search has provided the author with an improved understanding of reviewing reliable sources, locating, citing, and referencing them according to academic standards.
