Ethics and Values for Organization, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 347

Essay

Ethics and values for running a successful organization like University of Phoenix

Some important ethical guidelines as well as values are a necessary requirement in any organization.  The implication of ethics is the choices that are made with regard to what is right and what is wrong (Paul & Elder, 2002). The ethics and values constitute comprehensive attempts in the adaptation of external environment and presentation of social standards. Ethics and values are the basis of making moral judgments in which case difficult choices are made. The application of ethics and values allows for a good choice between standards and rules that seem to be conflicting (Scherrhorn, Hunt & Osborn, 2002).

Values and ethics remove the possibility of dishonesty in an institution like Phoenix where the tutors and the students are expected to express honesty in their practice. The student may not fabricate any truth while the tutor does not deceive the student with truth versions that have been distorted. The institution has the responsibility of nurturing the future role models and it is therefore very important to consider ethics and values.

The framework of the ethical decision of managers in any organization is based on the focus of the input of the manager in the protection of character as well as integrity of the people who will be affected by the decision. Ethics and values focuses on the provision of guidelines for consistent actions. They create a framework of principles which determine the difference between right and wrong (Rokeach, 1973).

An organization like University of Phoenix should be guided by qualities such as honesty, wisdom as well as integrity based on the fact that they are charged with promoting personal development of the students. This is an important aspect of consideration for the sake of the future qualities that are expected out of the students.
